Becky DeWitt is an inspiring author who captures ones’ attention as she writes from experiences and encounters of daily living. For over twenty years she has written about trials and tribulations from the ordinary everyday perspective.
A children’s short story, “Destiny’s Closet,” developed into a book, which teaches children the importance of developing a personal relationship with God. “Destiny’s Closet” inspired Becky to follow-up with sequels, “Circle of Friends,” and “The Wonder School.”
In 2017, Becky released her first novel, “Stolen Property,” which is an adventure into the supernatural from the Christian perspective, with breath taking experiences. Her vision will captivate the reader’s imagination into the mysterious.
The novel “Contempt”, book one in the series, was released in 2019, is the riveting journey through deceit, death, and betrayal, which was a way of life. Only the arrival of a miracle just in time changes everything. Entering into a maze of mystery, readers are left in wonder. “Reasons” and “Sabotage” complete the trilogy.
A library of her writings are stored on the AuthorsDen website, www.authorsden.com/beckydewitt. The vision of her company, Blood Drop Inheritance Group, is to pen those words of inspiration and revelation from the throne room for all generations. Author’s website: www.bdig-beckydewitt.org
BPM: Introduce us to your most recent work. Available on Nook and Kindle?
The Contempt Series including sequels Reasons and Sabotage, is a maze of mystery with twists and turns that will keep the readers on the edge. The character connections involve murder, suicide, deception, deliverance and salvation. The series is filled with the questions who, what, when, where and how. All three are available on Kindle in English and now Spanish.
BPM: Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?
The intrigue about the sibling connections will keep the readers in suspense for the shocking surprise. Reading Contempt and Reasons, one will assume that everything has been revealed, but there is an underlying secret that comes from the past.
BPM: Give us some insight into your main characters or speakers. What makes each one so special?
The main character, Arianna, triumphs over the years despite her beginning. A destructive lifestyle comprised of lost love, depression, suicidal thoughts, redemption, and a new life that is beyond what she could ever imagine. Trusting in God leads to healing and reconciliation to someone she lost. Tristan, the handsome hunk that every woman dreams of. He appears to have it all, but there are areas of lack. His lifestyle is empty, but when confronted with the possibility of normalcy, it escapes his grasp because of the past. Eventually he finds solace in God, which is hard to believe because of his demeanor.
BPM: Where do your book ideas come from? Are your books plot-driven or character-driven?
My inspiration for writing comes in the form of a thought from God. As I began to work on the Contempt series, I did not know from day to day what would be written. Initially I was given the main characters and the blueprint of the plot, but there was an excitement in the daily writing of the many twists in the maze. I had no idea that there would be a second or third book. The readers pressed for answers to many questions that they had which led to additional story lines to be developed.
BPM: Tell us a little about your creative process. Do you use a computer or write out the story by hand?
My creative process varies according to the genre for which I am writing. As an inspirational author,m I generally write early in the morning and in longhand. The process for writing novels is not dependent upon a particular time of day, but just sitting at the computer typing.
BPM: Do you write multiple books for a series? Do you have any new series planned?
I have written a children’s series titled Destiny’s Closet, which is the adventure of children find and talking to Jesus in a that they have never imagined. The experience continues in Circle of Friends and The Wonder School. Currently, a sequel to Stolen Property is in progress. Stolen Property is an adventure into the supernatural from a Christian perspective.
BPM: What advice would you give aspiring writers that would help them finish a project when so many ideas are running together?
It is important to have a strategy if you are working on several projects simultaneously. Organize the day to determine what project to work on and availability. Set completion goals such as daily chapters, final editing and even submission for publication. Dates will assist in being focused forward.
BPM: How has writing impacted your life?
One of the greatest joys is when the reader not only sees what you see, but brings the extra. It is like they become a co-author by adding their interpretation of the story. I read a quote once that ‘books are like missionaries, they work while you sleep.’ As a Christian author those words really impacted me to stay focused to complete my assignments.
