Intimate Conversation with Camryn King

Before delving into the world of suspense, intrigue and inconvenient attraction, Camryn King was the senior writer and managing editor for a lifestyle magazine. An avid traveler, she’s lived in or travelled to more than a dozen countries, and visited almost all fifty states, acquiring endless fodder for upcoming novels. Stiletto Justice is her debut release, followed by Triple Threat.

Camryn King has experienced her share of fear, insecurity, confusion and self-doubt, but she learned early on that there wasn’t any form of teenaged angst a good book couldn’t cure. Now, after years of dreaming about it, she’s put pen to a lifelong passion and poured the characters who have long lived inside her head into the pages of a novel. Her other passions include travel, playing detective and living vicariously through others’ lives via the internet and people-watching in Las Vegas, where she lives. Now that she’s rolled the dice and written a novel, she’ll go for double or nothing by opening the door to her life at CamrynKing.com and inviting your comments and feedback at CamrynKingBooks@gmail.com.

BPM:  It is such a pleasure to have you join us to discuss, Stiletto Justice.
Describe yourself in three words. Supporting women empowerment.

BPM:  What drove you to publish your first book or create your first series? How long have you been writing?
I wanted to delve into a genre that spoke to today’s breaking news stories, the headlines of our lives.Stiletto Justice deals with some very real issues that America is facing right now – political corruption (a big one!), mass incarceration, a broken judicial system and greed.

BPM:  Describe what you do outside of writing to expand your business or brand?
Honestly, I’m more focused on the writing, using my work of fiction to make a difference in real life. My website, CamrynKing.com is where I put most marketing energy. I believe that those who want to read about strong, empowered women who don’t back down, and good winning over evil, will be drawn to my books.

BPM:  What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your body of work/books?
That I became emotionally invested in the story line as though the characters were real.

BPM:  How did you choose the genre you write in? Have you considered writing in another genre?
My work crosses the genres of contemporary fiction, women’s fiction and suspense. Those are enough for me.

BPM:  Tell us about your most recent work.  Available on Nook and Kindle?
Stiletto Justice, my debut novel, is published through Kensington Books and available in print, eBook and audio, wherever books are sold.

BPM:  Give us some insight into your main characters or the speakers. What makes each one so special?
The three main characters Kim, Jayda and Harley each represent a different culture. Kim is Black. Harley is White. Jayda is Mexican. Their respective cultures and experiences shape not only their personalities but their points of view, something I think is true for all of us. What becomes clear as readers get to know them is that strength can be shown in different ways, depending on one’s personality. But when one is determined, they can be unstoppable.

BPM:  Share one specific point in your book that resonated with your present situation or journey.
I’ve had people close to me, family members, abused by the judicial system. I could absolutely relate to the frustration, helplessness and sometimes even hopelessness that these ladies felt.

BPM: Are there certain characters you would like to go back to or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?
No, these women have happily gone on with their lives. 😉

BPM:  Is there one subject you would never write about as an author?
I’d never write about a subject for which I’m not personally vested, don’t believe in or have no interest in. I would never write a book that goes against my own personal viewpoints and beliefs.

BPM:  Do you ever have days when writing is a struggle? Have you ever had to deal with rejection?
I’ve been fortunate not to have dealt with being rejected as an author. Writing is work and as with any job, there are days when you love it and days when…not so much. Sometimes the words aren’t there or the creative juices aren’t flowing. You just have to keep going until the magic returns. It always does.

BPM:  Have you written any other books that are not published?
My second novel, Triple Threat, releases in October, 2018 and another book, Snapshot is in the works.

BPM:  What projects are you working on at the present?
A novel called Snapshot, about a photographer who unknowingly snaps a picture that could bring down the most powerful man in our country…the President.

BPM:  How do you stay connected with others in publishing and your readers?
Through my website, CamrynKing.com.

BPM:  What legacy do you hope to leave future generations of readers and new writers with your writing?
That my writing isn’t just about entertaining but about making a difference, doing what I can to make our world a better place.

BPM:  What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with you or to follow you?
My website is best, CamrynKing.com.

BPM:  How can readers discover more about you and your work?
When readers visit my website, they’ll be able to easily follow my social media footprint. Everything is at their fingertips at CamrynKing.com.
