SLM: Dr. Rose Jackson-Beavers, what inspired you to gather these voices together, and what message did you hope readers would carry with them after turning the final page?
RJB: When God placed the idea for In Jesus' Name on my heart, I knew immediately that it was meant to be a testimony book. I felt Him calling me to remind His people that He is still present in our lives and still in the blessing business.
At first, I questioned whether I had truly heard God’s voice. Yet, by four o’clock the next morning, there was no doubt in my mind. The message was clear, and so was the title. What was remarkable was that the phrase “In Jesus’ Name” had already become a natural part of my daily life. For nearly a year, I had been ending my mental health videos with those words. I found myself saying them at the end of phone conversations, too. It was never intentional; it simply became part of who I was.
Then I felt God saying, “People are going through so much. They need to hear testimonies. They need to hear how others have survived pain, trauma, disappointment, and struggle through prayer and by walking with Me.”
That is when I knew this book could not be just my story. God wanted multiple voices sharing different experiences, challenges, and victories. The first confirmation came when every author I invited immediately said yes. The second came when I mentioned the project to my nephew. Without knowing the title, he excitedly said, “You should call it In Jesus’ Name.” At that moment, I knew this project was God-ordained.
The message I hope readers carry with them is simple: God’s promises are real. He never abandons us, and He never lies. Life brings challenges, heartbreak, illness, grief, delayed dreams, and seasons of uncertainty, but God remains present through it all. Some testimonies in this book speak directly to depression. Others address grief, broken relationships, illness, unexpected blessings, and personal transformation. Every story points back to God’s faithfulness.
My prayer is that readers will recognize God’s hand in their own lives as they read these testimonies. Sometimes hearing someone else’s story helps us see our own more clearly. If readers close this book with renewed hope, strengthened faith, and a deeper understanding that God is still working in their lives, then we have accomplished what God intended.
SLM: Looking back on your own testimony, what moment stands out as the turning point where you knew God was leading you toward healing and purpose?
RJB: When I look back over my life, I realize it has been a testimony. I have felt God’s presence since I was a little girl.
As a child, I prayed often and asked God to help me through difficult situations. In my young imagination, I pictured Him as King Kong. While that may sound unusual, King Kong represented strength and protection to me. I imagined him carrying me on his shoulders when I felt weak and standing between me and anything that might harm me. Even then, I understood what I had been taught in church, that God protects us, strengthens us, and carries us through difficult times.
I grew up in church and often joked that I attended before I was even born because my mother carried me there while pregnant. Except for my college years, the church has always been central to my life, but God has been even more so.
As I matured, I recognized God was not only protecting me but also preparing me. Throughout my life, people repeatedly affirmed that God had given me a heart for helping others. Looking back, I can see His hand guiding me through every season, shaping my purpose and opening doors to serve.
That purpose is reflected in my work today. Whether through mental health ministry, coaching, training churches, or writing books, my mission has always been to help people find hope, healing, and purpose. Across nineteen books and multiple genres, I have consistently written about real-life struggles, social issues, resilience, faith, and transformation.
There was no single dramatic moment when I discovered my purpose. Instead, God revealed it little by little. He has faithfully guided and protected me, reminding me that my calling is to encourage, educate, and uplift others. Seeing lives changed through my work reminds me that God was leading me all along.
