Treat Yourself to a Good Book!

      EDC Creations Submission Process

The EDC Creations is the publisher of  Black Pearls Magazine (BPM).  BPM is a online, bi-weekly updated magazine which gives voice to the issues that drive our national conversation. Our readership is thoughtful, intelligent, widely read and appreciative of ideas and writing of the highest quality. With that in mind, we seek thoughtful, well-researched articles and insightful fiction, book reviews and poetry on a variety of subjects from a number of different viewpoints. Please read this entire page BEFORE sharing your talents. Yes, it is a little long, but it will answer most of your questions. We welcome all writers to send their work!  The topics we would like articles for are listed on the far right side of this page.  Look  all the way to your right sidebar for the monthly editorial calendar, we will take articles on these subjects.

We do not pay our writers, but we have a open-door policy designed to encourage and facilitate new writers to share their work with our international audience. It is very important for you to become familiar with the voice and scope of our magazine before submitting your work.  Explore the many pages and published work before submitting to us. Publication on our site offers contributors international exposure and we are always happy to add a link to the website of your choice along with author contact information.

With its emphasis on fine writing and original thoughts, we provide readers with a unique perspective on politics, society, the environment, and culture. We welcome unpublished and first time writers. The essays, fiction, and reporting in the magazine's pages come from promising new voices as well as some of the most distinguished names in today's literature. We seek well written and properly edited material on these subjects: relationships, careers, health and beauty, spirituality, fitness, parenting, marriage, finances, and community revitalization projects. This information, while broad-based, is offered from a non-partisan perspective. We select articles that will appeal to a global audience. These articles must be uplifting, informative and pertinent to modern readers. You do not need to query us. Complete articles are preferred over story pitches.

Excerpts from books that can stand alone are considered. There is a fee of $99.00 to publish book excerpts from publishing houses on the site.  Authors, obtain the rights from your publisher to share these excerpts BEFORE you submit them to us. All copyright and copy right infringement responsibilities remains with the author. Any other reprint requests we receive, will be directed to the author if a valid contact address has been provided for this purpose. The copyright you designate will accompany all text online.

We welcome your interest and provide the following submission guidelines:

Quality over quantity -- unless specified otherwise, we generally do not publish pieces over 1,500 words. Articles and short stories should range 800 to 1000 words (approx) and be in a format suitable for Internet readers. Paragraphs are usually shorter on the Internet than those in a print article and must not contain more than one idea. Simply submitting the same article as written for print is not effective. All articles in the proper format will always be given precedence over those that will need re-editing.

:::: Fiction: We are receptive to high-quality literary fiction of all sorts, including traditional and experimental works; no pornography. Genre fiction (such as erotica, paranormal, dramas, crime thrillers, street lit, science fiction, horror, mystery, and romance) is encouraged as long as it crosses or comments upon its genre and is both character-driven and psychologically acute. We are also interested in works that do not readily fall into one specific category. Please do not send more than one (1) piece of fiction at a time. There is no need to query prior to submitting fiction. Email your articles to the editor for review. You will be notified via email one time, if material will be used.

:::: Non-fiction: Our main objective is to be truly helpful, to provide information that empowers our readers to make changes, and supports them in being their own experts. We like articles that have a strong point of view and come from the heart, that are challenging or evocative. We also take pride in publishing well-researched, extensively documented articles. When submitting non-fiction, please use only the most updated research, from primary sources. If you use outside sources, there must be footnotes giving credit to the original source. EDC Creations is not responsible for checking the facts. All rights are maintained by the author who submits the story or article. Tell the truth at all times. Check out dates, names and facts BEFORE submitting to EDC Creations.

:
:::  EDC Creations does not accept previously published work under any circumstance. Please inform us immediately if your submission is accepted elsewhere. We don't offer any form of payment to writers.

:::: We do not accept submissions by direct mail. Email all submissions to this address only: edc_dg@yahoo.com. With this subject line only: Submission Request for EDC Creations Magazine.

1. Provide a professionally written cover letter introducing yourself and your material via email. Provide a valid email address, website address and cell phone number. Do not send PowerPoint presentations, .pdf files nor MS Publisher files.

SAMPLE EMAIL COVER LETTER

Hello Ella,

You are doing a wonderful job with the EDC Creations Magazine. I love it. The purpose of my email is to show interest in writing articles on a regular for the EDC Magazine. I'm looking to showcase my articles and build my freelance resume. I understand these are not paid jobs, and that is fine by me. The recognition and the ability for people to get value out of my articles will do just fine.

I've attached a sample article that I wrote a while back in December of 2007 as your submission guidelines indicate. I have many samples, so let me know if you'd like a more recent article.

Below is a brief look at my credentials:
My short stories have appeared in various anthologies, including the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. I was previously a freelance writer for a local urban community magazine in Denver, Colorado entitled Denver’s Finest Underground – contributing articles on community and social issues.

In addition, my mystery novel, Searchable Whereabouts published February 2008 through XYP Publishing. I have also written together with two other authors an inspirational short story collection entitled, Somebody Prayed For Me, accepted for publication and released in December 2008. Lastly, my contemporary romance ebook, Unexpected published and released in November 2008. I have a few other book projects under the way and should be released in the later part of 2009 or early 2010.
