Give the Gift of Knowledge Campaign
EDC Creations, The Sankofa Literary
Society and The Black Authors Network announce the launch of their 2009-2010
"Give the Gift of Knowledge Campaign," bringing readers and authors together to
help improve literacy. In 2004, during the Christmas holidays, Ella Curry, the
founder of EDC Creations, reached out to women's groups and literary
organizations to help promote early literacy by giving new books to children
from low income homes. Today, the "Give the Gift of Knowledge Campaign," seeks
to expand even further! “Based on the “each one teach one,” model, our goal is
to help people introduce reading and new books to their family and friends,”
says CEO and founder of EDC creations, Ella Curry. “Instead of giving expensive
gifts that don't shape lives----let's “Give the Gift of Knowledge” and help to
strengthen our future generations!”
Each year thousands of people — educators, concerned parents, community leaders,
authors, poets and publishers — devote their time and resources to presenting
the reader with great books! However, too many outstanding books do not get the
attention and reader support that they deserve. It is our mission to connect
readers with these hidden gems and bring them books that will change their
lives.
Each week EDC Creations will sponsor bookclub chats, live readings from authors,
podcast presentations, seminars, community relations discussions, and radio
shows that deliver the best our writers have to offer. All we ask is that the
readers of the world spread the word. We are hosting a 6-week Black
History Book Fair to Give the Gift of Knowledge.

National Campaign to
Promote Health and Literacy
The
Risqué Café and its partners have organized a 12-week weight-loss/wellness
challenge with the purpose of funding their foundation which will empower
inner-city and troubled youths to express themselves in a positive manner,
bring awareness to the literary community and promote healthier lifestyles.
The challenge will be hosted and facilitated by Memphis’ own The Risqué Café
- a website and marketing company created to connect authors and readers (www.therisquecafe.com).
At the conclusion of the
12-week challenge, the top (3) three teams with the highest percentage of
weight loss will be rewarded a cash prize, products, books, and more!
The challenge is designed to encourage and promote literacy, as well as help
participants develop healthier lifestyles so they can live longer.
Lifestyle/Wellness coaches from “Healthy You 4 Life” will provide support,
meal plans, and wellness consulting throughout the teams 12 week journey to
a healthy you.
Over 12 weeks, the teams will learn healthy eating habits, and how to make
optimum food choices, for life. Studies show the camaraderie, encouragement,
accountability and motivation of group weight loss competitions lead to
greater success. Statistics show weight is a key predictor of a number of
chronic, life-threatening diseases such as diabetes. Not only can healthy
weight loss turn those disorders around, but it leads to increased energy
and productivity, and higher self esteem.
C. Jay of The Risqué Café says, "Losing4Literacy will bring more awareness
to the literary arts and healthcare plus bring communities together on a
local as well as national level. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone
who is a philanthropist at heart to give back and experience a positive life
change.
Registration begins March 25, 2009 and ends April 25, 2009. Adults and youth
are welcomed to participate. This is for a great cause.
Registration fee is $30 per team of 10 members. To be best prepared and find
out the rules, interested individuals should visit

Category: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
Zuri Day sizzles with a seductive story of one woman’s quest to take control of
her life…while experiencing an attraction too explosive to resist.
D’Andra Smalls has had enough. She’s tired of being overweight, she’s had it
with her overbearing family, and she’s fed up with settling for any guy who’ll
have her—especially since she caught her boyfriend cheating with her best
friend.
But working out and avoiding delicious food is easy compared to resisting the
charms of Los Angeles’ hottest personal trainer, JaJuan “Night” Simmons. Six
feet of chiseled muscle and fine chocolate, he’s challenging her body in all the
right ways—and proving there’s a sensitive, caring guy under the good looks.
Their shared career goals of promoting health and fitness bring them even closer
together.
But D’Andra feels it may be too much of a good
thing. After succeeding in taking command of her life, can she risk losing
control of her heart.

Behind the Books with Zuri Day
Zuri Day is a hopeful romantic. She believes in happy endings, half-full glasses
and dreams coming true. That's why she's thrilled to introduce her second
romance novel, which follows the success of Lies Lovers Tell, because writing
and having her novels published is for Zuri a dream come true.
Zuri doesn't remember exactly how old she was when she picked up her first
romance novel, but she does remember it was love at first sight. "It was
probably a Harlequin," she recalled during a recent interview. "And it
thankfully took me away from a fairly dull and routine existence growing up in a
small Kansas town."
Things aren't dull and routine anymore. Zuri now resides in Los Angeles with her
family and when she isn't writing loves to travel the world, cook vegetarian
food, work out, watch sports, attend concerts and theatre and enjoy the simple
things in life.
"Many people have given up on love, much less romance," Zuri says. "I'm hoping
that somehow in the love-filled pages of my romance novels, they can ignite the
desire to believe again. Anything is possible, when we believe..."
