Give the Gift of Knowledge Campaign
EDC Creations, The Sankofa Literary
Society and The Black Authors Network announced the launch of their 2009-2010
"Give the Gift of Knowledge Campaign," bringing readers and authors together to
help improve literacy. In 2004, during the Christmas holidays, Ella Curry, the
founder of EDC Creations, reached out to women's groups and literary
organizations to help promote early literacy by giving new books to children
from low income homes.
Today, the "Give the Gift of
Knowledge Campaign," seeks to expand even further! “Based on the “each
one teach one,” model, our goal is to help people introduce reading and new
books to their family and friends,” says CEO and founder of EDC creations,
Ella Curry. “Instead of giving expensive gifts that don't shape lives----let's
“Give the Gift of Knowledge” and help to strengthen our future generations!”
We now invite you, the readers, to join us by supporting the authors below and
buying books as gifts!
Each year thousands of people — educators, concerned parents, community
leaders, authors, poets and publishers — devote their time and resources to
presenting the reader with great books! However, too many outstanding books do
not get the attention and reader support that they deserve. It is our mission to
connect readers with these hidden gems and bring them books that will change
their lives.
Each week EDC Creations will sponsor bookclub chats, live readings from authors,
podcast presentations, seminars, community relations discussions, and radio
shows that deliver the best our writers have to offer. All we ask is that the
readers of the world spread the word. Check out the information below and
invite this author to chat with you and 5-10 friends via Skype, tele-conference
or a speaker phone meeting. If you would like to spotlight this author on
your blog, website, magazine or radio show, email Ella Curry at: elladcurry@edc-creations.comIf
you have already read the book, share your reviews with us by clicking here.

with a brief introduction into the book.
The book is about an aspiring artist turned Correction Officer only to
find out she is as dangerous as the inmates she is watching. Our
protagonist Lynne Forde finds herself falling in love with men, crime and
danger. It's Training Day meet Oz with a twist of Set It Off. Readers,
here is a sneak peek at Chapter 1, Lies of Blue, open here.Read a Chapter 8
excerpt, here.
Who
are your main characters in Lies of Blue? Bring them to life for us.
Lynne Forde is a sexy, smart woman who has alot of book smarts but is naive to
real street game. She becomes a C.O. in hopes of building enough capital
to finance her music career. Little does she realize working in the jail
is going to be a constant test of her wits and fortitude. From her first
day at the jail men are approaching her for sexual favors, from officers to
inmates. Her heart is soft and that ladies and gentlemen is what gets her into
so much trouble.
Develin
Former is the antichrist. He quietly preys on Lynne before she lets him
into her heart, her head and her home. He is handsome but mean is an
understatement. What starts off as affection turns rapidly into hate and
contempt for Lynne and he does he best to destroy her. Danny
is the only officer to really pierce Lynne's hard exterior to manage to puncture
and break her soft heart. He lets her fall head over heals with him, then he
shows his true colors.
Why
was it important to get this book out?
There are so many issues that are dealt with every day. First and foremost
the domestic abuse is an epidemic in this country. Unfortunately the
headlines even tell you that everyone celebrities to church folk are going
through domestic violence issues. I need people to know that there is
never an instance to accept a person violating you. From verbal to
psychological to financial to emotional and physical abuse NONE OF IT IS
ACCEPTABLE!
What’s one thing (besides writing) that you enjoy doing?
Writing music and acting.
What’s
your favorite quote & why?
From the book the favorite quote is "God Throws Pebbles", because you
would rather God throw a pebble at you than hit you with a boulder. Other
favorite quote "If nothing changes, then nothing changes." Self
explanatory I think.
What
is your most valued possession?
My faith in God and my incredible sense of humor.
What
would your best friend say about you?
She is the most reliable and one of the smartest people I know. Good
businesswoman.
What
does love mean to you?
Love means when I lose my legs and arms and you still want to spend the rest of
your life pushing me around in a wheelchair and helping me wash my behind.
Love is the thing that we all want, but few find. Love is that feeling
that you drink in and it gives you the extra push to succeed. Love is the
ultimate universal gift that you can never have too much of.
What advice do you have for
aspiring writers?
Write. Learn your craft and then write. Believe in yourself and
don't get discouraged. This is not easy and it won't be perfect the first
time, but anything worth having, is worth putting in the work to achieve.
Please give us a preview of your next project,
including when it will be released.
My next two projects are actually screenplays. I am working on Best
Kept Secret a story which asks what lie will you take to your grave?
Also Really Real, a parody of today's entertainment industry and makes
us look at how far into the abyss we can fall.
Lies of Blue is the story about Lynne Forde, a young woman who tries to reach
her dream by making sacrifices. Somewhere along the line, the wrong sacrifices
get made. It’s Training Day meets OZ with a twist of Set It Off.
When Forde gets tired of her dead end job in the City Courts, she embarks on a
career in the belly of the beast. With a degree in hand and a little bit of
street sense, she decides to try her hand working in River’s Edge Jail
Complex. From day one at the Academy to her last day at Prison, Forde evolves
from your average “rookie” into something other than just a woman. To make
matters worse, if you put a sexual being in the midst of some of the city’s
most conniving men and women, you are bound to come up with something a little
kinky and very destructive. The more dangerous the game became, the more erotic
the encounters became.
She goes from Officer, to Hustler, to Vic, to CEO in a matter of 8 years.
Lies of Blue is an expose of what goes on in the belly of the beast, through the
eyes of one woman. Lies of Blue teaches you that there are so many people you
may come across in life, you never know who is real and who is fake, but that
the journey can become a battle of life or death. Choose wisely. (Book info: ISBN-10: 1604023783; ISBN-13: 978-1604023787)
Lies of Blue deals with many human interest aspects:
Domestic Violence
Sexual Abuse
Police Corruption
Self Esteem in Women
The Criminal Justice System
Lack of Rehabilitation in the Criminal Justice System
Cutting of programs in Prisons Today

Spotlight on new author Lynne Forde and
her book Lies of Blue
SLS:
As the flagship premier author of Saffrye Entertainment, Lynne Forde is
making quite a statement. Personifying strength, success, and
ambition, the CUNY graduate and New York resident has effectively introduced
a new hit to the urban literary market, Lies of Blue.
SLS: Explain how you developed, Lies of Blue. How
do you approach writing novels? Do you start with an idea, a title, do
an outline, etc?
LF: I start with an idea and then create an outline, then I tie it
into the title. Here is the introduction to Lies of Blue.
Lies of Blue by Lynne Forde
What is the price for fulfilling your dream?
Lies of Blue is the story about Lynne Forde, a young woman who tries to
reach her dream by making sacrifices. Somewhere along the line, the wrong
sacrifices get made. It's Training Day meets OZ with a twist of Set It Off.Readers here is a sneak peek at the

SLS: I
would love to know what techniques you used to develop your reading audience.
Everyone knows you have a loyal following and it's fascinating to know
how these individuals learn about and buy your books.
LF: I gain exposure by promoting the book on-line, doing signings and
readings at different locations nationally. I promote on my Blogtalk
radio site. I throw Lies of Blue parties, go to colleges and distribute
flyers as well.
SLS: Describe your
new book, Lies of Blue, for us and tell us about why you wrote it.
LF: I wrote Lies of Blue because the story never gets old. Lies
of Blue is the story of an aspiring artist who takes a job as a
Correction Officer only to find out she is as dangerous as the inmates she
is watching. It's Training Day meets OZ with a twist of Set It Off!
First the story is about a woman searching for love and trying to fulfill
her dreams. She decides to become a Correction Officer to fund her
ambitious music career, but she loses her way. Second is the story of
lost love and unrequited love. We have all felt the pain of loving
someone who does not love you back. We also know when we get into a
bad relationship that everyone tells us is horrible, but we get deeper in
until we find the inner strength to leave.
SLS: What
are your favorite things about the main three characters Lynne Forde,
Develin Former and Danny? Were they hard characters to depict?
LF: Lynne was the easiest to depict. She has so many of my
characteristics and traits. She is super sexual and too compassionate.
Danny was the epitome of Lynne's flawed feelings of sex = love.
Develin is the most despicable, devious and confused person. Much like
Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
SLS: Tell
us something about the story that we can’t read on the cover.
LF: You can't tell that Lynne Forde is very close with
her family.
SLS: What
makes this novel different from others in it’s genre?
LF: This story has never been told from a
woman's perspective. You have many stories of men, corrupt cops,
prison love affairs, but not from a woman's point of view. Serpico, Training
Day and Brazen are all male centered stories.
SLS: As
a writer, what are some of the most important things you try to get across
through your books?
LF: Inspiration always and belief in a higher power. Also
Karma is something that I know exists, I want readers to know that every
action has a reaction.
SLS: Who
is your audience for Lies of Blue? Who do you think will understand and
gain insight through reading your book?
LF: My audience is ages 18 and up. I want everyone from the
college student to the CEO at the corporation, from music executives to law
enforcement. I want everyone to read this book because, the sex, the
drugs, the corruption, the domestic abuse, and the dreams deferred can
happen to anyone. I have had women identify so strongly with this story and
at the same time I have had men shocked by the details.
SLS: Is
any of this story autobiographical? Were any scenes from the book inspired
from what you know, or it is through your imagination?
LF: I wouldn't say autobiographic, most of this is
fiction, but it is based on stories and
experiences of people that I have heard.
SLS:Do you feel that every manuscript
you write is meant to be published?
LF: I would think
that if I sat down and put the effort into creating
a manuscript, then yes I would like it to be published.
SLS: Do
you have unpublished works that you feel is for your eyes only? Please
comment.
LF: I have several unpublished poems that I
keep to myself.
SLS: Do
you write the kinds of stories that you like to read? Who are some of
your favorite authors?
LF: Honestly, my best stories are erotic. I could give Zane
a run for her money. Sandra Brown, Walter Moseley, Tom Clancy.
I love mysteries.
SLS: What made you want to become a novelist?
LF: I believe that I can write a story
that someone can visualize on in their mind and on screen.
SLS: As
a new author, what would you say was your most difficult challenge in
completing your novel?
LF: The most difficult challenges were writing
the abusive parts of the story. I place myself into the characters
to feel what they feel. So that created a writers block due to the
violent acts. The other part is the editing process. Grueling!
SLS: What’s
the biggest compliment you’ve been getting on this book?
LF: That this is a very hardcore real story
and you can feel this like real life.
SLS: What
was the last book you read? Why that particular book?
LF: Tavis Smiley - The Covenant. I was
interested in learning what Tavis had to say. Amazingly enough I
opened the book it spoke directly to me.
SLS: In your opinion, what is the absolute
best thing about being a writer?
LF: The absolute best thing about being a writer
is that with a pen and paper you can educate. You can teach and
inspire.
