Do you know the secrets to a happy marriage? And is there really such a secret? Well the word is now out and that there really is none, it may seem like that to you because you are just not aware of the things that you should be doing so that you and your partner can work out your marriage. It takes effort you know to make a marriage work and that is exactly what you need to do.
There is so much responsibility that comes with being married to another person, but above all else there should be love there otherwise every effort you do will just go to waste. And you must be responsible enough to spot what makes your relationship start to disintegrate and immediately work on the remedy or the cure. It takes two to tango so you both should work on it and not just rely on any marriage help that you can find.
The following are just some of the tips on how to save a marriage that should be worthy of your time. Work on it and should be seeing great results in a short time.
Do not forget to spend time with your spouse. Often it is when couples start to become too busy with their jobs or something else that they start to neglect their marriage. Being married means being together as often as possible. However, if your job requires you to be away most of the time, at least you should frequently reach out to your spouse. Chat through an instant messaging service. Send each other emails. Just do anything to keep connected.
Date each other again and again. Even if you are already a decade married, there is no reason why the two of you should not go out and have a beautiful and romantic dinner every now and then. Marriage is all about the romance attached to it and dating is just one of the best ways to stay romantic. Perhaps you have another thing in mind when it comes to being romantic so I suggest that you should just do it and do it often.
A gift is such a wonderful thing to give. It shows that you always remember that person. It shows that you love them. And it shows that they mean something in your life. So you should start making gift-giving a regular thing in your marriage. You do not have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on just a gift. Something special or memorable need not be that expensive.
These are just a few of the things that you can do to make your relationship work. Save my marriage maybe what other couples are saying right, but it should not be yours.
Marriage Help: Ways To Rekindle The Fire
By Marlo Gino
If you feel that your marriage is starting to fall apart, here are some ways that will help save your marriage:
1. Grow as individuals and as one
In marriage, it is important that you grow together but this doesn’t mean that you have to lose your individuality. You and your partner should make a constant effort to better yourselves and grow in harmony and intimacy together. Be positive around one another and try to remove the negativity that is damaging your relationship.
2. Bond together
With the busy life, you and your partner may be missing out on bonding together. Creating bonding time is one of the ways to save a marriage. All your time and efforts are focused on work and the kids that you don’t have fun with each other anymore. Take a vacation for just the two of you or go out on dates. Do activities that will help rekindle the flame that was once burning brightly.
3. Be presentable
Marriage doesn’t mean you have to stop looking good for your other half. In fact, looking presentable and attractive is an everyday job. Most couples tend to let go of themselves during marriage. They get fat and don’t take care of themselves anymore which is one of the reasons for infidelity.
4. Communicate
If you go to a counselor, she will tell you that communication is the most important way to fix marriage problems and she is right. Everything can be fixed with proper communication and it should go both ways. Both of you should take turns in talking and listening. Be patient in getting your point across and try to agree to disagree in order to save a marriage. Remember, that you are also individuals with different opinions and thoughts.
5. Consider the children
You have built a family because of love. Your children are products of love and intimacy and you shouldn’t let them suffer because you cannot fix your marriage. Your children should be your motivation to doing everything you can to save your marriage.
6. Bring the romance back
Relive the courting days when both of you were looking great for dates and giving each other sweet nothings just to express your love for one another. After years of marriage, the romance is gone and couples do not make extra effort to bring it back. Romance and intimacy are important in any marriage so make sure you do your part to keep the love burning.
7. Express your love
Yes, you know you love your partner but does he/she still know it? There might be a lack of expression in the marriage that has contributed to the fights and problems. Always assure your partner that you love him/her. This is also a good motivation for you to work things out.
Love is beautiful and it can make you do crazy things. Let your love for one another stand out so you can save a marriage and have a happier family.

no one can. Now no one is safe—not his friends, and definitely not him.
Revenge can be a real killer...
The
Stalker Chronicles by Electa Rome Parks
Prologue
It was getting easier and easier now.
She moved quickly and efficiently throughout the spacious three-car garage. She
wanted to remove any traces of evidence that she had ever been there. She had
always been good at simply disappearing and being invisible. That was easy.
She was definitely more confident, and it showed in her cool, calm, and
collected demeanor. She was no longer afraid of being caught, because the urge
to punish those who had hurt her was stronger, much more overwhelming, and
urgent. She probably couldn’t stop herself even if she wanted to---she was
operating on pure animal instinct. The need to survive and protect herself by
any means necessary overrode anything else. Fight or flight. And she had long
been tired of running.
There had been others over the years, more than she could count on one hand.
They were mere vague gray memories that occasionally crossed her mind, like one
might think of a stray pet one owned as a child, but she dismissed the images
just as quickly. She never held on to them for more than a few fleeting moments
in time. Denial was her refuge.
Only one had successfully escaped her sharp talons and womanly wiles. Or had he?
Maybe she let him get away, just that one time. She hadn’t determined which.
Sometimes she thought of him, when her mind wasn’t a jumble of darkness,
discontent, and madness. There were moments. . . .
She missed him, yearned for his special touch, the touch that only he could
deliver with precision and skill. His touch brought heat and desire. His lies
brought pain and sorrow. She hated that he escaped her grasp, or that possibly
she let him walk away, unscathed. She still considered him her soul mate, the
one who made her complete and safe and sound. She yearned to feel complete,
because most days she realized she was broken and damaged beyond repair.
However, she couldn’t think of that one just yet. Not now. That would come
later. The strenuous act of positioning this one just right was over. Now she
had serious, delicate cleanup work to complete. Within seconds, that one, the
one who got away, was pushed to the dark, cold recesses of her mind. Forgotten .
. . for now.
It was painstakingly slow work because everything had to be absolutely perfect.
She had observed and respected what a perfectionist he was. He thrived on it.
She softly snickered to herself and had to catch herself before it became an
all-out rambunctious laugh. He didn’t look too perfect right now, slumped
behind the steering wheel of his black BMW like a deflated, tossed-aside bag of
rags and bones. Another snicker escaped. She tightly clamped her gloved hand
down over her mouth to stop it, to keep it from spilling forth.
When he was discovered—hopefully, within a day or two—she wanted him to
appear perfect in death. That was the least she could do, because she honestly
felt she owed him that much. With a gloved hand, she carefully took the
typewritten note out of his jacket pocket, typed from the personal computer in
his home office, and gently placed it next to him on the soft leather passenger
seat of his car. Laughter escaped freely and drifted into the still air.
She took one last hopeful look at him and placed a single kiss on his left
cheek. She wanted to remember him at peace. Happy. So handsome. She sighed
before she carefully closed the driver’s side car door. Then she continued to
wipe down any surface she might have touched that bore her prints. She was
patient as perspiration dotted her forehead. From her experiences, she knew that
patience was a virtue.
She dreamily thought, We could have been so deliriously happy together. They
always fucked things up. Always. She hadn’t met a man yet who didn’t. It was
never a matter of if, but when. If only he hadn’t started to question or doubt
her because of that damn movie, Diary of a Stalker, which had been released a
month earlier and was a blockbuster success. Everyone was talking about it;
already there was talk of Oscar nominations for best actress and best actor. She
couldn’t escape it, no matter where she turned or what it signified for her.
No, you didn’t reject me and attempt to walk away, without a backward glance,
she thought. How dare he? She didn’t do well with rejection. Never had. Never
would. She chuckled to herself, thinking the joke was definitely on him. If he
were alive, he would probably appreciate the joke as well. She had decided years
ago that no one, especially not a man, would ever hurt her again. Never again.
So far, she hadn’t broken her promise to herself, nor did she have any
intentions to going forward.
She exited the beautiful, spacious home that screamed quiet elegance, luxury,
and money. She let herself out and quietly disappeared into the night, under the
cover of darkness. She craved the darkness for its mystery and power. She
whistled a happy tune to herself as she walked away. No worries. No rush. She
was lost in her own demented world. Enter at your own risk.
She reminisced about a man—a beautiful, tall, dark, and very sexy man with
deep dimples and gorgeous teeth, a man she couldn’t wait to be reunited with.
Her body craved him, and she could hardly contain her excitement and joy at just
the mere thought of being in his presence again. It had been too long. As for
the one in the garage, with the car engine running and the towel stuffed in the
exhaust system, he had already slipped her mind, before his body was even cold
and stiff. Her last thoughts of him were that when they found him, she hoped he
would look perfect. She knew he would want it that way. After all, that was the
least she could do. She hummed a lively tune and strolled off into the darkness.

Lutishia
Lovely dishes up a decadent helping of love, lust, greed, and secrecy in this
riveting tale of a family's soul food dynasty...
Life is good for the Livingstons. Business is booming, Taste of Soul is
launching a West Coast division, and Bianca Livingston and her brother,
Jefferson, are vying to head it up—which means their long simmering rivalry is
about to boil over...
Having completed a culinary course in Paris—along with a hot love
affair—Bianca feels more than ready to take the reins in L.A. Her parents'
insistence that she marry a man of their choosing only fuels her ambition.
Jefferson is hoping the position will free him to be with the secret L.A. love
his family would never approve of.
But the two soon realize that between their meddling cousin, Toussaint, and the
return of an enemy bent on crushing the Livingston empire, they aren't the only
ones in this competition. And when company money mysteriously starts
disappearing, they'll find it's hard to run a business when no one can mind
their own...
Chapter
Two from Mind Your Own Business by Lutishia Lovely
Three hours later and Bianca was still reeling. Whose hand is in the cookie jar
... and how did they grab all of that money without anyone's knowledge? The
Livingstons had bandied about a variety of scenarios and made a chart of
potential employees, past and present, who they felt best poised for betrayal.
Bianca's eyes narrowed as she remembered one name that had come up, a woman
who'd had an affair with her cousin and who'd worked for the Livingston
Corporation until her relationship with Toussaint abruptly ended. This
ex-marketing director had disappeared into thin air and, as far as anyone knew,
was no longer in Atlanta. But with the Internet making the world smaller, click
by worldwide click, Bianca didn't count out the woman she'd never trusted.
Whoever was stealing from what had been a relatively dormant bank account could
be anywhere.
A knock at her door startled Bianca from her musings. Belatedly, she remembered
Cooper's phone call and subsequent promise to drop by. She took a breath and
steeled herself for the encounter. "Hey, Coop," she said, standing
back from the door to let him in.
"Hello, dear," Cooper replied, the kiss on her forehead as sexy as
that which an uncle or grandfather would bestow. "You look troubled. Come
here and tell Papa all about it."
Bianca fought the urge to roll her eyes and, going against every fiber of her
being, dutifully followed Cooper into the living room of her designer-decorated
townhome. She loved her split-level, three-bedroom spread: the hardwood floors
and gourmet kitchen; bright yellows and oranges tempered by ebony wood; windows
everywhere, letting in the bright autumn sunshine. The cheery surroundings were
in stark contrast to her ever darkening mood.
Cooper sat down and tried to pull Bianca into his arms.
"Please, Cooper," Bianca said, placing more distance between them.
"I'm ... not in the mood."
"Some women would welcome the touch of their fiancés at a time like
this."
"I'm sorry."
Sorry for what, Bianca? Stringing out our engagement for two years? Becoming
more and more engrossed with your work? Or our not having made love in almost a
month? Instead of voicing these questions, Cooper refocused on Bianca's bad
mood. "What's going on, dear? Something at work?"
Bianca nodded.
Cooper leaned back, waiting.
Bianca hesitated for only a moment before answering. For obvious reasons this
matter was confidential, known only to the Livingston clan, the private
investigator Ace had immediately hired—and the thief. But not only was Cooper
almost a family member, but his analytical, lawyer mind might see clues or
connections where Bianca would not.
She turned to face Cooper. "Somebody's stealing company funds."
His only reaction was a slight narrowing of the eyes. "From one of the
restaurants?"
"No, from corporate."
Cooper sat up, rubbing his chin in thought. "Corporate, huh? That's
interesting."
"Very."
"Any ideas as to whom it might be?"
"A few." Bianca stood and began to pace. "But the most obvious
one right now is our ex-marketing director, Shyla Martin. I think you met her
two years ago, at the company Christmas party."
Cooper pondered this statement, even as he remembered why last year's Christmas
party had been subdued and low-key. "What does she look like?"
"Tall, attractive. She was Toussaint's date."
"Oh, her," Cooper replied, nodding. "Sure, I remember Shyla. I
remember thinking that she was funny and intelligent, and that she and Toussaint
made a good couple."
"Yeah, well, she thought they made a great couple, too. And she wanted to
make their union permanent." Oh, shoot. The last thing I want to do is put
marriage on Cooper's mind.
But she'd already done so, as Cooper's next words verified. "So there are
women out there who want to get married."
"Coop ..."
"Okay, I won't press right now. But we've got to make plans for the future,
Bianca. Neither of us is getting any younger. It's time to get married and start
a family ... soon."
Bianca returned to the couch and sat down. Her brow was furrowed in
thought—about the theft, Cooper's words, and other things.
"What happened?"
Bianca's eyes widened at Cooper's question. Am I that transparent? Are the
memories so poignant, so strong, that they're written all over my face?
"What do you mean, what happened?" she asked breathlessly.
Again, Cooper's eyes narrowed, as they often did when his sharp mind whirled.
"Between Toussaint and Shyla ... what happened?"
"Oh, right, between Toussaint and Shyla. You know what happened to them,
Cooper. Alexis St. Clair happened."
"Of course I know about Toussaint's wife, Bianca." And the baby
they're expecting. "But I didn't know that Alexis caused the breakup
between him and Shyla, nor would I imagine Shyla as the type of person who would
go to these extremes as a result."
"It wasn't just about their breakup." Bianca sighed, remembering that
she'd never shared with Cooper the extent of what went down between the
Livingstons and their former employee. She gave the short version: how Shyla
Martin's attempt to come between Toussaint and the love of his life had cost
Shyla her job.
"Oh, I see. Shyla not only lost love, but she lost money, too." Cooper
nodded his head. "That makes your assumption that it is her imminently more
plausible." Cooper eyed Bianca, noting her stiff countenance and rigid
neck. "Come here, dear," he quietly commanded, even as he reached for
her arm. "Don't you worry your pretty little head about a thing. We'll get
to the bottom of this."
This time, Bianca did not resist as Cooper pulled her into him. Talking this
situation out reminded her of the things she loved about him, and one of those
things was that he made her feel safe. In many ways this fair-skinned,
freckle-faced man was like her dad, Ace Livingston, and Bianca would never deny
that Cooper was a good man who came from an upstanding family. But that was the
problem. She respected him, admired him, even loved him—as one would a good
friend.
But
Bianca wasn't in love with him, the way she wanted to be with a man when she
walked down the aisle. The way she'd fallen for a Frenchman in Paris, after only
two months of dating. Cooper might be able to help her solve the mystery of who
stole the company money. But as Bianca laid her head on his shoulder, she
wondered who would help her solve the mystery of how to get over the man who'd
stolen her heart.
Consequences of Loving Freely in 2011
by C. J. Hudson
Your head starts to spin. Your throat gets dry and your entire life flashes before your eyes. For months you’ve ignored the nagging cough that has persisted. Then, after finally deciding to go to the doctor, reality gut punches you as the doctor informs you that you are HIV positive. After the numbness wears off, you start to wonder who you contracted the deadly virus from. For all intents and purposes, you have just been handed a death sentence. Then you leave out of the doctor’s office wondering when it will turn into full blown AIDS.
It is estimated that more than one million people are living with HIV in the USA and that more than half a million have died after developing AIDS.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die from complications due to AIDS. African Americans accounted for the largest proportion of people living with an AIDS diagnosis in 2008 at 42.6%. It has pretty much ripped the heart from the family structured environment that was so prevalent in earlier years.
Now, in the year 2011, it is more important than ever to be careful. With all the information available via the Internet, pamphlets, and magazines, there is no reason not to be educated. Even urban fiction novels are starting to get the message out. One very educational, as well as entertaining book is my new release
Next Door Nympho. I take you on a journey detailing the dangers of being promiscuous.
Next Door Nympho shows readers that sex can be the most dangerous form of pleasure if not taken seriously.
Unfortunately, the unprotected sex boom shows no signs of slowing down. Until we start looking at this crippling disease through concerned eyes, we will continue to crumble under its deadly hand. I think we can all agree that most of us like sex. But the thing that we need to remember, now-a-days, is that sex is no longer safe. Back in the old days if you had unprotected sex, Gonorrhea was the most common disease you would catch. You would go to the doctor and get either a shot in the behind or some penicillin pills to get cured. HIV/AIDS has no cure. You can’t go to the doctor and get a shot to clear it up. All you can do is take the medication that is prescribed for you and wait for the disease to claim your life.
I know this sound harsh, but it’s the reality of the situation. So before you take that man or woman home after leaving the club Saturday night, use Saturday afternoon to get
informed on the prevention of HIV. If you don’t like to read magazines, or don’t like to surf the Internet, pick up a copy of author C. J. Hudson’s
Next Door Nympho. I guarantee you will be entertained as well as informed. Listed below are several sites to visit for information on the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

ACTRESS & DIRECTOR TANYA WRIGHT
OF HBO’s TRUE BLOOD PUBLISHES DEBUT NOVEL
BUTTERFLY RISING
An inspirational story of redemption and friendship as readers follow two women whose lives are changed forever as they embark on an unlikely spiritual journey; also slated for release as a feature film!
Actress
Tanya Wright is thrilled about the publication of her gripping debut novel, BUTTERFLY RISING, which was inspired by her own experience with personal tragedy and transformation. Known to fans worldwide through her recurring role as the saucy, outspoken Deputy Kenya Jones on HBO’s hit series True Blood—as well as numerous other television and film roles including 24, NYPD Blue, ER and The Cosby Show—Wright channels her powerful sense of drama and human emotion into the unforgettable and compelling story of two women who form an unlikely, life-long friendship and their fateful encounter with the mysterious ‘Lazarus of the Butterflies.’
When singer Lilah Belle’s brother dies, she decides to leave her hometown of Lucasville to find solace on the open road. Seeking a companion for the journey, she coaxes Rose Johnson—whose provocative reputation with other women’s husbands is the stuff of legends in the small town— to come along for the ride. These two broken souls steal a vintage truck and head toward a town called Newhope, where a chance encounter with the mythical—and possibly magical—‘Lazarus of the Butterflies’ brings about riveting changes for Rose and Lilah, altering their lives in ways that neither could have expected. The journey results in an unforgettable spiritual awakening which binds the women together forever.
“I hope the message in BUTTERFLY RISING inspires people to believe in their dreams, no matter how far-reaching they may seem,” Wright says. “In today’s world, it’s easy to put our dreams last on our daily list of ‘things to do.’ BUTTERFLY RISING—a bumpy and emotional journey towards hope and rebirth— is a story that suggests our dreams may actually be the bridge to leading a productive, fulfilling and extraordinary life. The journey of Lilah and Rose also exemplifies that second chances are infinitely real and deserved,” Wright says.
An accomplished actress and writer, Wright found the inspiration for BUTTERFLY RISING in the loss of her brother and the transformation she experienced in her own life at that time. Originally penned as a screenplay, Wright directed and stars in a film version of the story that is awaiting national release. To learn more about the movie and the inspiration behind it, visit

Black Mafia Widow Thelma Wright
Shares Her Story in New Book
"With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Life In and Out of the Game"
The words "queen pen" and "boss lady" can conjure up many images. One might think of an icy, cold-blooded gangstress who is heartless about the business at hand. Yet, the sparkling, green eyes belonging to Thelma Wright paint a different picture. Though rumored at one time to be the most powerful and dangerous Black woman in Philadelphia, discreetly running a bi-coastal drug empire that her husband left behind, Wright's green eyes reflect a pensive view. Peering into them, we feel the love, the loss, the pain and the retribution of a mother, a wife now widowed and a yes, even a friend. Simply stated, Thelma Wright was married to the mob ... the Black Mafia to be exact. But nothing is ever that simple.
With her poignantly, introspective release of "With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Life In and Out of the
Game" as told to and written by C. Alease, the former boss lady invites us not only into her world, but into her mind, her heart and her soul. The woman, quietly heralded by some as the Black Griselda Blanco, minus the murder, was on the lead track of the notorious Black Mafia, a gang which ran Philly's drug trade throughout the '80's and into the '90's. Married to drug
kingpin, Jackie Wright, one of the top heroin wholesalers in the city at that time, Wright was privy to a life that on the surface, most would envy.
Like Blanco, Wright was respected as a no nonsense woman who stayed on top of the product. At her peak, she was grossing top dollar and living the high life, attending championship fights via private jets, going on European shopping sprees and driving a fleet of customized Mercedes
Benzes. She also enjoyed taking cruises to the Bahamas and speed boating in Miami.
"With Eyes From Both Sides" however, Wright takes us beneath the surface of the fast lane into the real. The product of a middle working class Black family, Wright attended Catholic school and was a star athlete as a child. Life was never difficult for her and she came from a stable and loving, two-parent home. Wright's story is not your typical tale of abuse or abandonment. In fact, it was the strength of good parenting and strong family ties that saw her through her darkest days.
So how did she end up entangled in one of the Black underworld's most notorious gangs? It was the attraction for men who had achieved financial status and success that was the bait that lured her into the 'game.' Like most inner city communities in an era past, the fast life was the road many initially, well intended Black men traveled to acquire seemingly quick and easy riches.
Wright's book is a ride down memory lane, as we flashback to the tone of those times. Nostalgia colors our remembrance of days long past, as she recalls childhood games on the schoolyard in her elementary years to her high school graduation, her first job and her first boyfriend even.
Through her vivid recollections, we gain recognition of the heart behind a woman who loved so hard that her eyes were blinded to the cold reality of truth. In a world cluttered with deceitful dealings, pain and continual loss, Wright closed her inner eyes and saw only a facade of what was real.
"There are really roads, highways to this life, with fast lanes and slow lanes and some with banked curves and circles around which we are driven. My story is a warning for women who think that the fast lane is the road less traveled, and therefore the best one to take. It is a cautionary tale for the inquisitive, middle of the road wanderers, who stumble at the fork, wondering what it might be like. But above all, it is a prayer for women all over the world who wish to know the truth of the matter," reveals Thelma Wright. "If you are in the 'game,' get out, because it will destroy you."
Thelma Wright's "With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Life In and Out of the
Game" is more than your cautionary urban fiction lore. It is the real life drama of a woman who played the game in full and survived to tell about it. But even more so, Thelma Wright is 'everywoman' who has ever loved someone, but had to learn to love herself first and foremost.

Loving Two People At the Same
Time
Is It Truly Possible?
by Trice Hickman
My debut novel,
Unexpected
Interruptions, chronicles one woman's search for happiness as she embarks upon a life-changing journey filled with love, betrayal and secrets! The book also explores hot-button social issues like interracial dating, skin-color bias, and class stratification—all of which make for pretty interesting discussion. But these issues soon take a backseat to the troubling quandary the main character finds herself embroiled in, when she falls in love with two men…at the same time!
The main character, Victoria Small, is a smart, savvy young black woman who’s ready to leave her cushy corporate job and fulfill her life-long dream of starting her own business. And after many failed attempts, she’s also ready to test her hand at love again. On her road to professional and personal fulfillment she finds herself falling for two men—one black, one white—both determined to have her. As Victoria's involvement heats up with both men, her carefully crafted life begins to slip out of her control.
Love triangles aren’t always about promiscuity, or how many notches one can put on his or her belt. These relationships can be very complex (and sometimes, dangerous), and like Victoria, oftentimes the individuals involved find themselves in a struggle between their head and their heart. In some cases, there are people who’ve been in loving relationships with their mates for many years, but can’t let go of that one special person from their past. Or, for some it’s about loving people who bring them happiness in their own unique ways.
Yes, there are lots of people out there like Victoria…real life is far more colorful than fiction! It’s not uncommon that people who are involved with more than one person do so because they find that different people satisfy their different needs. One person may fulfill the part of them that yearns for stability and assurance, while the other may give them a sense of lightheartedness and passion. One may be the dependable rock they can count on while the other may be the exhilarating spirit that ignites their soul. Whatever the reason, it begs to ask the question, can one person satisfy ALL of an individuals needs? The answer is certainly debatable, but one thing is for sure…it’s hard to burn the candle at both ends.
There is a line I wrote in one of my other books that says, “To love someone fully you must give your whole heart.” If you believe this premise, there is no way a person can be in love with two people at the same time because you only have one heart to give. Love requires an emotional investment. Do you think it's possible for a person to truly be in love with two people at the same time? Let me know your thoughts?

Smart, sexy Victoria Small has come to the end of her year off—from men, that is. She's enjoyed her hiatus, the peace, quiet—and no unexpected interruptions. But now she's ready to have someone to come home to. And her timing is perfect, as not one, but two, handsome possibilities enter her life. . .
Ted, a powerful, blue-eyed CEO sends a thrill of excitement through her that shocks Victoria out of her comfort zone. Her answer just may surprise everyone, including herself. . .
So you’re at a social event such as a office party, bar, restaurant, or night on the town with the girls, and you meet that guy who sends chills through your spine.
He’s sexy, good-looking, and has the ultimate swagger. Every woman in the room notices him, but he has his heart set on you.
What do you do next? You both play games with your eyes for moments until one of you get up the nerve to start the conversation.
Before you know it, you’re giggling, and he’s laying all his game on the table, until hormones start raging. The next thing you know, you’re in bed.
That’s the typical scenario of how
‘One Night Stands’ go. It’s weird because I often wonder what goes through a person’s mind prior to landing in bed.
Right now I’m thinking; booty call, casual sex, one-nighter, hit it and quit it, and lastly…MISTAKE.
What good can come from casual sex? Well, I mean other than one night of pleasure.
I mean it sounds great; hooking up with someone for one night of sex, no strings attached. Supposedly, you both walk away, never even thinking the relationship will go any where.
But then there’s that one guy or girl who didn’t get the memo about how ‘One Night Stands’ operate, they simply don’t want to play by the rules. Then what do you do?
They’re calling you. Blowing your phone up! Stalking you on FaceBook.
Going back to the place where they initially met you, night after night, hoping to see you there again.
You simply want to say, “Wham Bam, Thank you
Ma’am. ’’
But you can’t. You feel obligated. Or maybe even want to hit it again.
Whoaaaaa…now we’re really digging a hole for ourselves. So I ask, what are the do’s and don’ts of
‘One Night Stands’? What are the rules? I’d like to hear from you. Hit me up on

Lies,
deceit and murder ran rampant throughout the city of Atlanta. Real and his lady,
Constance, were living in the lap of luxury, with fancy cars, expensive clothes
and a million dollar home until someone close to them alerted the feds to their
illegal activity.
At the blink of an eye their perfect life was turned upside down. Just as Real
was sorting things out on the home front, the head of Miami's most powerful
Cartel gave him an ultimatum that would eventually force him back into the life
he had swore off forever. Knowing this lifestyle would surely put Constance in
danger, he made plans to send her away until the score was settled but things
spiraled out of control.
Now Real and Constance are in a fight for survival where friends become enemies
and murder is essential. Atlanta's underworld to Miami's most affluent
community—no stone was left unturned as Real fought to keep Constance safe
while attempting to regain control of the lifestyle he once would kill for. From
the city of Atlanta to the cell block of Georgia's most dangerous prison, life
under the City Lights would never be the same.
•
Chapter One
from City Lights by George Sherman Hudson
The federal agent watched Real get out of his lime green Lamborghini Murcialago
LP 460 with his fiancée Constance and head into G-Spot, his high class strip
club located on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta . Real had been under
federal investigation now for six months, ever since a federal informant tipped
them off about his illegal activities. Anyone who came into contact with Real
would surely put him well beyond his actual age of only twenty-seven years. He
was six feet tall with a medium built muscular frame that the ladies couldn’t
get enough of. His smooth, charcoal black skin, wavy hair, and light brown eyes
gave him an exotic look that would have any woman fawning over him.
Real was a real charmer and a ladies man. He prided himself on his slick tongue
and convincing rhetoric. Some people in the past had mistaken his easygoing
manner for weakness, but in the end, they found out Real was an extremely
dangerous individual. Constance, Real’s baby girl, fiancée, and
business partner, was always by his side. Constance was three years older than
Real, the spitting image of Lisa Raye with a little more hips and ass. Constance
grew up in the College Park projects, where she got down with the grimiest of
niggas hustling crack to the project fiends. After a few run-ins with other
hustlers, the word spread quickly that lil’ fine ass Constance would bust her
gun at the drop of a dime.
After graduating from Banneker High, Constance tried her hand at real estate. In
no time, she became a highly reputable broker that only dealt in the most
high-end homes. Constance became a millionaire virtually overnight.
Constance
and Real had met three years earlier at a mutual friend’s birthday party. They
kept each other company throughout the party. Before leaving the party, they
exchanged numbers and promised to stay in contact. A week later, Constance was
selling Real a $4.7 million estate in North Atlanta —the one in which they now
both reside.
Real was a millionaire in his own right, raking in millions in the drug trade,
more than he would ever make going legit. He supplied dealers from every coast.
Moving over 100 kilos a week enabled him to live the lifestyle of some of the
world’s biggest sports figures. After continuous preaching from Constance to
put together some kind of legit source of income, he opened up G-Spot, an
upscale strip club that catered to the rich and famous.
Real and Constance were on their way to a Tyler Perry play when Real got a call
from Max. “Say, cuz,” said the manager of G-Spot, “we need your assistance
down here. It’s very important,” Max said firmly.
Max was Real’s older cousin. He was discharged from the military right after
the Gulf War. As soon as Max heard about his lil’ cousin Real starting a strip
club, he practically begged him for the managing position. Constance was totally
against it, but Real disregarded Constance ’s wishes and gave his cousin the
job anyway. Unfortunately, it took a while for Real to see just how right
Constance was.
“I’m on my way,” Real said, placing his phone back into the car charger.
“On your way? Where you goin’?” Constance snapped.
“Max needs me down at the club. It’s only going to take a second,” Real
said, turning the Lambo around and heading back up to the club.
“Man, come on, now! What the hell you hire this nigga for? To watch pussy!
Shit, you might as well be managing your own shit! Every night, you get a call
to go do his fuckin’ job! You need to hire somebody to handle your business so
you’ll have time to spend with your fuckin’ lady!” Constance barked as
they pulled up into the club parking lot. Real knew when it was good to
let Constance have her say, especially when she was right, but by the same
token, Constance also knew when to hold her tongue.
“Come on,” Real told Constance as he opened the door on the Lambo.
Ignoring his command, Constance sat in the car until he walked around, opened up
her door, and helped her out of the car. Walking hand in hand, they entered
G-Spot.

MOGUL: A Novel
by Terrance Dean
Entertainment industry insider and author of the Essence
bestselling Memoir, HIDING IN HIP HOP, returns with a highly-anticipated novel
that explores the secret gay life of a hip-hop’s impresario!
With
the publication of Hiding in Hip-Hop, the controversial Essence
bestselling expose that set the entertainment industry on its ear, Terrance
Dean, who has worked in television and film for well over a decade,
became the voice of African American men in Hollywood and in Hip-Hop who
conduct clandestine same-sex relationships. Through revealing yet
discreet anecdotes about his liaisons with the rich and famous who were also
on the “DL,” Dean’s provocative and candid account brought to light a
hidden gay subculture that insiders have been well aware of for years.
Now, with his debut novel, MOGUL(Atria Books Paperback Original), Dean once again returns to this subject
matter as he entices readers to play the guessing game about the real-life
celebrities who serve as inspiration for his larger-than-life characters.
In a literary style that’s E. Lynn Harris meets Zane, Dean presents a
fictional page-turner about a beloved music industry genius who’s launched
the careers of the hottest stars in hip-hop but also harbors a secret that
could destroy his life and empire.
Aaron “Big A.T.” Tremble, an athletically
gifted teenager from Brooklyn, discovers he is attracted to George, one of the
most popular basketball stars at his school and soon, the two become embroiled
in a secret romance as they juggle studies, gym practice and girlfriends. A
year later during their senior year, George announces he is moving to
California for college.
While Big A.T. is heartbroken, he pours himself into
his music to forget George and begins producing for local rappers in his
neighborhood. After a chance meeting with the retired kingpin of
hip-hop, Larry “Pop” Singleton, Big A.T.’s life is forever
changed as he becomes Pop’s protégé and a member of the “family”— a
network of secretly gay men in the industry who will eventually become
instrumental in helping him launch his own music label.
Attracting the biggest names in the industry, Big A.T. has
the Midas touch with millions of dollars in the bank, real estate holdings,
luxury cars, and countless fans. He’s built a bona fide empire but along the
way, Big A.T. falls hard for one of his artists, the sexy Tickman. They love
each other but know they must keep their relationship a secret and to keep any
press speculation about their sexuality at bay, each becomes involved in
relationships with high-profile women.
However, unbeknownst to Big A.T., a journalist
seeking revenge against hip-hop power brokers and looking for his 15 minutes
of fame obtains compromising photographs that threaten to expose the truth
about Big A. T. Will his life crumble in the wake of a huge
scandal or will Big A.T. survive—and out of the closet forever?
In my junior year at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn I had it going on.
I was popular. I had a fly girl and fly gear.
And I was on the basketball team ... had a jump shot like you’ll never
believe. I was even recruited by some scouts to go upstate New York to play
ball at Syracuse University. That’s how fucking good I was.
But, I will always remember the date, October third. I’ll never forget it.
It’ll always stick with me.
After basketball practice we were all pissed off as we headed to the showers.
One of my teammates couldn’t seem to make a basket to save his life, nor the
team’s ass. So coach made us sprint around the gym ten times at full speed.
Generally, after a long hard practice the team would head out to get something
to eat before going home. But, this practice was hard and long. My entire body
ached. My muscles were throbbing. My feet were screaming for a relief from my
sneakers, and my hands began to cramp.
We were sweaty and smelly. I was in desperate need of a shower. The gym reeked
like that of musk and old sweat socks. Some players started joking around. We
needed it. The mood was tense. I was, at least.
While showering, I caught glimpse of my teammate George Rochelle’s naked
six-foot-five rock-hard body. George was a high school senior, captain of the
basketball team. All-City. All-State. Power forward and, the most popular male
in my school.
His back was toward me and all I saw was George’s bubble ass slowly being
lathered by his massive hands. George was dark, like a chocolate Hershey bar.
His entire body was the same color.
No imperfections.
His muscles rippled as he washed under his arms and reached around to his back
and ass.
Watching him I started to get an erection. I couldn’t help it. The sight of
George’s nakedness caused my loins to stir.
Then George turned around and faced me. His six-pack abs were on display along
with his long and dark dick.
He smiled and nodded at me before I could turn away. I was embarrassed. My
dick was fully erect. I grabbed my erection and quickly turned away. I fled
the shower and rushed toward my locker. I dressed quickly. George walked by
and smiled at me. I put my head down and pulled on my sweater. I was trying to
get out of there.
“Hey,” George said standing in front of me with the towel wrapped around
his body.
I stuffed my feet into my sneakers and stood up.
“What’s up?” I said avoiding eye contact.
“What you got up for this weekend?” he asked.
I glanced at him. Damn! He was fine. Smiling at me with his beautiful lips.
Pink.
Luscious.
Lips.
“I got a lot of studying to do,” I replied.
“Oh, aight, well hit me up this week so we can hook up and hang out.”
“Yeah, aight.” I grabbed my backpack and rushed toward the locker room
doors. My feet were tripping over one another. My head and underarms started
to perspire.
“Yo!” He yelled as I was hustling through the doors. His deep voice
startled me. I stopped and slowly turned to face him. My heart was pounding.
He was still smiling. Standing with the white towel perfectly wrapped around
his waist.
He pointed towards me. “You got your sweater on backwards.”
“Thanks,” I said flustered. I pushed through the doors and ran toward the
water fountain at the end of the hall.
That evening I couldn’t stop thinking of George.
His smile.
His body.
Thoughts of his nakedness kept me awake the entire night.

Have You Ever Been Played or Betrayed?
by VegasClarke
Most folk have felt that deep, wounding feeling of betrayal at one point in their lives. It’s the kind of hurt that keeps you up at night, the kind that makes fury rise up in your stomach, and the kind that makes every word escape from your mouth in the nastiest tone possible. Generally, you ask yourself, “Why? I can’t believe they would do that to me…not him…not her…we were so close.
Oddly, every betrayal begins with trust; sometimes a lover, sometimes a family member, but most times a friend. Someone once said, “A true friend is the most precious of all possessions and the one we suffer from the most when things turn sour.”
But why do we set ourselves up with false hope? Aren’t friends people too? And aren’t people human? Certainly the answer is yes. People are human and they do make mistakes…but as friends we often call it betrayal. But is it? One of the formal definitions of betrayal reads; to lead astray or to deceive. You decide.
After surveying many people the line has been drawn in the sand, and you must take a stand. Can you make a mistake or turn on a friend and be forgiven? Should you be given a second chance? One story was told about a woman who desperately loved her friend of fifteen years, but gave into depression mixed with a bit of lust.
Crystal, a thirty year old woman was diagnosed with cancer and given six months to live. Her best friend Keisha poured her heart out to her friend after hearing the news. She dove right in to assist the family with day-to- day activities such as, cooking, cleaning, and taking the kids to after school practices. One thing led to another and Keisha began servicing Crystal’s man. Both Crystal and the husband knew it was wrong but claimed they were comforting one another and helping their souls with the pain of knowing Crystal would be leaving them both with empty hearts soon.
Unfortunately for them, Crystal never died. She’s alive and well today, spreading the word about how she’s been betrayed by her best friend.
Many other situations have been shared , but another that stands out is intentional deceit; which is also another form of betrayal. What if your back were against the wall, and a situation called for your life or your friends? It’s either you or them. You’ve been asked to aid in their demise. What would you really do?
The novel Snitch, written by VegasClarke narrates the lives of four childhood friends who grow into adulthood with a vow to watch each other’s back. But when times get tough, one friend has to make a harsh decision to sing on them all. Unfortunately that decision could land everyone on death row. “ Though friendship is not quick to burn, it is explosive stuff.
” Consult with your so-called friends today.

Book Passion's Price - Read an Excerpt
When attorney
Darlene Cunningham made up her mind, she rarely ever changed it. And that had
created some problems for her and her family. As the youngest partner at
Myrtle, Coppersmith & Cunningham LLP, Darlene usually got the least
promising and least interesting cases assigned in the three-person law firm.
But her job as a defense attorney meant everything to her. Even the smallest
detail of the most mundane case got her professional juices flowing. Take for
instance her current case. She had to force herself not to get too excited
about it. There was something suspicious about her client. Something wasn't
right about the burglary case, and it was driving her crazy.
And then a witness had come forward and volunteered to testify on her client's
behalf. It all seemed too convenient, she thought. It just didn't add up, and
Darlene was determined to find out why.
That's why Darlene had decided to fly down to Memphis and re-interview the
witness. Though her partners didn't think it was worthwhile for Darlene to
travel all that way just to nail down the facts in the case, Darlene
disagreed.
And so here she was in Memphis, trying to locate the alibi witness, the only
witness who could testify that her client, Albert Frank, was somewhere else at
the time the crime took place. A very convenient witness who had very
inconveniently vanished without a trace.
Darlene landed at Memphis International Airport, exhausted after having
transferred twice on the trip from Baltimore. Having refused the peanuts and
pretzels offered on the plane, she was hungry and a bit on edge. She'd never
been to Memphis before, and the intensity of the heat and humidity surprised
her, adding to her discomfort.
She checked into the famous Peabody Hotel—known for its duck march through
the lobby—and called room service for a pulled-pork sandwich and iced tea.
She unpacked while she waited for her food to arrive. After she'd eaten,
Darlene once again tried to contact Frank's alibi witness at the number she'd
been given. To her disappointment, she got no answer, not even voice mail.
With no word from her witness, she struck out the next morning to check on her
client's story about where the witness lived. She took a cab to the address
he'd given her in an upscale neighborhood in a cul-de-sac bordering Memphis
and Collerville. She would have expected just about any neighborhood other
than the quiet, pristine homes that screamed old-money wealth and power. Less
sure of herself now, she knocked on the door, since she had not seen a
doorbell.
"Come in," a slender gray-haired man in a black suit, white shirt
and black tie said with a gracious smile. "Not many people come here
these days." He spoke haltingly, and she decided that he was part of the
household staff, a fair assumption given the neighborhood. "Have a
seat," the man said as he gestured toward what she discovered was an
elegant living room.
"Thank you. This heat is almost unbearable," Darlene said to fill
the awkward silence. She used a tissue to wipe her forehead.
"Yes, it is," the man said. "Would you care for some sweetened
iced tea? I made it a few minutes ago. If you're uncomfortable, I can turn up
the air conditioner."
She leaned against the back of a tufted velvet chair and looked at the man.
"Thank you, but I don't care for tea, and the air-conditioning is fine.
This is a beautiful house, but it must be very old. No one seems to build
these kinds of houses anymore." Small talk was something she hated, but
she had to engage the man in conversation if she was to learn anything about
her client.
"Yes, it's old, all right. My grandfather built it. But I renovated it
from roof to cellar about twenty-five years ago. Sure you wouldn't like some
tea or iced coffee?"
"No thank you. I was given this address and was told a young man, an
alibi witness, lived here. But I see I was wrong, so I'd better be
going," Darlene said, somewhat surprised that the old man lived in the
home. "Thanks for your hospitality."
"I wish you wouldn't go," he said as she reached for the doorknob.
"I've enjoyed your company. I don't get much company anymore."
"I'm sorry," she said as she opened the door. She turned to leave,
only to find her exit blocked. She looked up into the eyes of a
six-foot-three-inch boulder.
"Excuse me. I was j-just leaving," she stammered, taken aback by her
sudden encounter with this immovable object.
"You aren't going anywhere," he said.
"Would you please get out of my way," Darlene said, letting him know
that she was not easily intimidated.
The man put his hand in the inside pocket of his jacket, took out his badge
and flashed it. "I'm Detective Michael Raines of the Memphis Police, and
you don't leave this house until I say so."
Darlene looked him in the eye. "Really? I thought all the bullies in
uniform were in Baltimore. Apparently Tennessee has some, too. How
interesting! Now, would you please move aside? I have business to take care
of."
He raised an eyebrow. "Go right ahead. Maybe you can walk through
me."
She stared at him, seeing him as if for the first time. Something flickered in
his light brown eyes, and she responded, unable to do otherwise. She told
herself to get out of there. But she stood rooted to the spot. His eyes said
he would never release her. She shook her head as if to break the spell he had
cast over her.
"I'm Attorney Darlene Cunningham, and you have no reason to keep me here.
If you don't let me pass, I'll sue you, the city of Memphis and the state of
Tennessee," she said, her mild manner dissolving into anger.
His facial expression didn't change one bit. Realizing that belligerence would
get her nowhere with Detective Raines, she decided to switch tactics.
"You haven't read me my rights, and you have to do that if I'm under
arrest." Her voice took on a taunting tone.
"You are not under arrest, Ms. Cunningham. You are being detained."
She leaned her head to the side in what she knew he'd take as a challenge.
"What's the difference?" she said, clearly losing patience.
"Very funny, Ms. Cunningham, but you may as well have a seat, because you
cannot leave this house until I say so."
Darlene turned to the old man. "You didn't tell me your name."
"My name is Boyd Farmer. Have a seat. At least it's comfortable in
here."
"Is this guy your son? Oh, sorry," she said before Boyd could
respond. "You're too nice to have such an arrogant, obnoxious son. I
really need to go."
"I'm sorry," Boyd said. "He isn't going to let you go."
She whirled around and glared at Michael Raines, and for her trouble she felt
a peculiar thudding in the region of her heart. "At least I deserve to
know why I'm being detained," she said. "What did I do?"
Realizing that her tone would only make him more adamant, she switched tactics
again. "You're unlike any detective I've ever met."
"What do you mean by that?" His tone was definitely not friendly.
"Oh," she said, tossing her hair to the side. "I mean, aren't
police officers supposed to protect and serve?"
Boyd's laughter filled the room, but she avoided looking in his direction.
Instead she focused on Michael Raines.
"Yeah," he said. "Now, sit down and let's cut the comedy."
Darlene did not like taking orders from a stranger, even one with a badge. She
didn't move. "You don't look stupid," she told him. "You have
to tell me why you're holding me here. It's the law. Tell me why I'm being
detained, or I'm leaving." She tried to move past him.
He grabbed her shoulders and glared at her. "What are you doing
here?"
She twisted her shoulders and moved away from him. "I'm trying to get
information that I hope will help my client's case."
"You'll have to prove that to me. This house has been under surveillance,
and neither you nor anyone else can leave here. Get it?"
She'd have to come up with a different excuse. Getting back to her office in
Maryland was paramount. The other partners already considered her trip to
Memphis little more than a wild-goose chase, and if they discovered her
present predicament… She didn't want to think of their reaction.
"I have to get back to my hotel," she said.
He folded his arms across his broad chest and smiled, giving evidence that he
could be charming when it suited him. "Oh, so I gather you plan to leave
Memphis."
"No, as a matter of fact I'm staying at the Peabody," she said.
"Really?" he said. "I'm sure it won't be a problem for you to
stay here."
"Now, look here, you," she said, with all the softness of a wildcat
about to pounce. "You're going to." She stopped. His beautiful eyes
twinkled like flashing lights, and she could see his difficulty in restraining
his laughter.
"You're not one bit funny, and I'll have the last laugh."
At that point, Boyd brought the tea along with a brioche and jam. "This
should make you comfortable." She thanked him. "Detective Raines
doesn't like tea, and I don't have any more coffee," he said.
"How long has he been here?" Darlene asked Boyd, pointing to
Michael.
"He's been here two weeks. That's why I don't have any more coffee. He's
practically a coffee addict."
She took a few sips of tea and looked at Michael. "Coffee addict, eh? I'm
glad to have at least some evidence that you're human."
Something akin to pain flickered in his eyes, and she wished she could retract
her words. It wasn't his fault that she'd stumbled into a house that was under
surveillance. He was doing his job. Maybe if she appealed to his decency, he'd
let her go.
"If I'm stuck here for any length of time, I'll lose my case." She
told herself that she wouldn't beg, but that had sounded very much like a
plea. She observed him carefully to see his response.
"But how do I know you've told me the truth? You could be the person I've
spent the last few weeks looking for."
"Oh, come on," she said, her attitude inching toward aggressiveness
again. "Anybody can look at me and see that I'm not a burglar."
He looked toward the ceiling as if begging for mercy. "Another statement
like that and I'll have proof that you're not a lawyer."
"I am, and I have to be in court Monday morning. If I don't show up, I'll
be in contempt."
"I can take care of that. Give me your client's name and the case number.
I'll take care of the problem right now."
"No, thank you. I don't want any help from you."
His quick shrug let her know what he thought of her response.
"You're a heartless man." "If you say so."
Darlene was already mad with herself. She decided to switch gears one more
time, hoping that a different tactic might soften him up. "You ought to
be ashamed of yourself for doing this to an innocent person," she chided.
"You could ruin my life."
Boyd walked over to where Darlene and Michael stood at loggerheads.
"Darlene… I hope you don't mind if I call you Darlene. Wouldn't you
like to freshen up a bit? There's a lovely guest room and bath upstairs, and
if you're going to be here for a while, you're welcome to use it."
She could see that Boyd wanted to lower the tension between them, so she
smiled and patted his arm. "Thanks. That would be lovely."
"Leave your pocketbook and that briefcase down here," Michael said.
"And don't think you can use the phone up there. It's been disconnected.
On second thought, I'll show you where the guest room is. Who knows what
you'll try to do?"
Darlene whirled around and headed for the stairs, intent upon finding the room
herself, but he managed to move slightly ahead of her. "This way,"
he said, turning left at the top of the stairs.
At the bedroom door, she tossed her head back, sending her hair flying around
her face.
A grin spread over his face. "Don't even think about it. That's a
thirty-foot drop. You're clever enough to know that if you jumped, you'd hurt
yourself. Besides, every window in this house is locked."
Slouched against the doorjamb, Michael stared down at her. Then his gaze
shifted from her eyes down to her lips and stayed there. His light brown eyes
darkened. His nostrils flared, and he sucked in his breath.
"I don't need you to chaperone me while I go to the bathroom," she
challenged.
Not a muscle in his face moved. "Why don't you say what you really mean?
Darlene, I could have you thrashing with passion one minute and handcuff you
the next."
"I don't believe you," she said, moving toward him.
He folded his arms across his chest. "You're reckless, but I'm not.
You're ready to do something stupid right now, and you haven't given a second
thought to the consequences."
How many times had she heard those very words from her family? As usual, she
ignored the advice. "What consequences?" she asked. "You're a
cop, and you're obligated to behave like one."
His laugh was barely more than a groan. "I'm also a man. And since I'm a
cop, when it's your word against mine, mine carries more weight. Get in there,
wash your face or whatever else you plan to do and stop testing me. If I
decide to take you up on your flirtations, you'll remember it for a long
time."

Men Are
Abused Too
by Carla S. Pennington, author of The Available Wife
When people discuss domestic abuse, they automatically think
and assume that a woman is being physically abused by a man. This is not always
the case. Domestic abuse has different forms: physical, emotional, mental and
sexual. In relationships and marriages, not only are women abused but men are as
well. Although it is a current problem, it is a hidden crime.
There are many reasons why domestic abuse against men is unrecognized. It is
hard to get reliable estimates. Not enough is being done to encourage men to
report abuse. The idea of men being abused is unthinkable and astonishing to
most people that men do not attempt to report it. Men feel that no one will
believe them and some of them even feel ashamed because of the notion that they
will be seen as weak or unmanly. Men often escape a bad home life that they are
afraid of by spending extra time at work, staying in “their” space (garage,
den) at home, or even sleeping in the car or at a friend’s place.
Women abuse for many of the same reasons as men do-alcohol and/or drug abuse,
psychological disorders and unrealistic expectations and assumptions. Abusive
women make unfair demands on their partners and attribute most of their
depression and frustrations on them. They blame their partner rather than admit
their own insecurities, emotional problems, childhood traumas and/or current
substance abuse. They want their partner to make them feel whole rather than
take responsibility for their own lives.
Men stay in abusive relationships for the same reasons abused women do:
protecting their children, assuming blame (guilt prone) and dependency (or fear
of independence). If more men would report domestic abuse then more can be done
to help them. Abused men should be given the same treatment and resources as
abused women. Currently there are a few shelters, programs or advocacy groups
for abused men. Most abused men have to rely on private counseling services or
just deal with the abuse.

Dirty Divorces: Stand
by Your Man or Not
by Miss KP
Why do women settle on less than satisfactory relationships? Why do women stay in toxic relationships? Have you ever been cheated on? Or been the cheater? Before you answer, take a look at the next statement. Would you believe cheating is defined as anything that breaches a relationship contract? That includes kissing, a sexual communication that you wouldn’t dare tell your mate about, over the top flirting, bobbing the knob, and of course… sexual intercourse.
We all know that both females and males cheat, but what exactly is it that makes a man cheat? Research shows that most men don’t attach as much significance to monogamous relationships. Some men say the cause is, “Boredom.” Others say, “I need sexual variety.” What about these excuses, “She let herself go, the thrill is gone, I married too young, she changed, we grew apart.” The list goes on, but the big question is, why do some women stay?
Author of The Dirty Divorce, Miss K.P polled 100 women only to find out that most stayed for the top seven reasons; financial stability, the children, comfort zone, I’m cheating too, afraid to be alone, addicted to the love stick, and it’s cheaper to keep him.
What about the average woman who decides not to stay? Will she have a stigma over her head that her relationships fail and just don’t work? Some say it depends on how well you can take care of yourself financially. Which brings us to a good point; women who marry high paid celebrities. Is it as easy for the average woman to split as it is for the wife of a celebrity? So often we hear in the media about high profile marriages ending in divorce due to cheating. But some spouses stay too.
Do any of these names ring a bell? Cookie & Magic, Swiss Beatz & Mashonda, DMX & Tashera, Shaq & Shaunie, Michael & Juanita Jordan.
Tashera, DMX’s wife, wins the crown for most loyal wife. It has been said that DMX has fathered children outside of their marriage and cheated numerous times, but she’s still by his side. Each situation is different, but one thing is for sure; some women thug it out…and they stand by their men while others stand by the bank, like Elle, Tiger Woods wife. Did I mention that she left Tiger and took half the bank with her? Now that’s my kind of girl!
In Dirty Divorce Part 1 and 2 readers were at the edge of their seats, addicted to the Sanchez family drama. The Dirty Divorce Part 3 begins with Rich instantly being a mark with a death sentence placed on his head. He s faced with his biggest nightmare when secrets are revealed that he thought were buried. While Lisa spirals out of control more than ever, Marisol and Rich battle their way to be the top dog in the industry that has made their lives a living hell. More than ever they learn that karma is a vicious cycle. The lifestyle of fast money and luxurious things will never prepare them for the new drama that is about to unfold. Get ready for another shocker full of disbelief as you take the final ride.

Why Do Smart, Good Women Fall for Bad Men
by VegasClarke
We see it all around us…every day, a sweet wholesome woman on the arm of some arrogant, cocky guy who thinks he’s the king of every castle. He's not that cute, and doesn't seem to give a damn about anyone but himself. Why is she with him? Please tell me. Somebody?? Anybody??
Bad men or should I say, bad boys…. know just what to do to hook the ladies.
They look for women who like their mess. That's right. They wouldn't be able to pull off half of the antics they do if they weren’t allowed to do so. Bad boys are confident and they simply don't give a damn. They can take you or leave you. That's one reason why they fare well with women. If a woman says no, who cares? They move on to the next one, and they do it with the same energy and boastful attitude as they did with the last woman.
So, I ask, “Why?” Here’s one reason. When was the last time a man excited you? If you have to think about it, then you probably already have a good, loving, boring man. The bad boys are always testing the boundaries and pushing the envelope when it comes to their life - and women can't get enough of it. They find it intriguing. And when you put exciting and adventurous beside the other unruly traits, it sends women into a tizzy.
Women don't crave men who are pushovers. They also don't like men that they can see coming a mile away. Contrary to the belief women like men they can read and men that provide them with a sense of security, women actually LOVE to guess! It is challenging for them, and it is one of the elements of the bad boy that keeps them coming back for more!
They are exciting, adventurous... and bad! Bad boys are often rugged and in-control and sometimes even end up in jail. But after all of that, the important piece here is that they will still get the ladies. Who do you lay beside at night?

Cheaters Never Win
by Carla S. Pennington, author of The Available Wife
He swept you off your feet when the two of you first laid eyes on each other. The conversation at this unexpected meeting assured you that you’d see him again and again. You do. You become “available” to him. You’re on cloud nine and after a few dates and sexual rendezvous, you’re sure that he’s the one. Wait a minute! You’re married with kids! This is not a concern to you at this point. You continue your affair.
You begin making plans to seal the deal, but in the months or even year(s) that you’ve “been” with him, not once has he spoken the words that you long to hear. “I Love You.” Why do you think this is? You fret the answer, but he doesn’t love you. You try to convince yourself that his actions speak louder than the actual words. The more time you spend together, you find yourself needing to hear them. So, you begin doing everything imaginable and even unimaginable to make him do so. Sad, but true. You don’t know anything about this man, but you’re willing to give up everything for him. Is he?
Most women marry believing that nothing in the world will ever change how they feel about their husband until Mr. Irresistible comes along and changes her mind. Marriages in our society today do not seem to mean nearly as much as they used to in the past. It is so easy to give in to temptation than to fight it. One thing that marriages are lacking is communication. It is the primary reason that marriages fail.
Okay, you feel that this new “fling” is giving you everything you ever wanted and needed. What if your spouse can do the same? Have you taken the time to express your wants or needs to him? What about his feelings? What about your kids? Are you truly willing to give up everything that you built with your family for someone you don’t know? For someone who isn’t really trying to get to know you? For someone who only wants you for…one thing? Think about it.
Selfish is defined as: concerned chiefly or only with yourself and your advantage to the exclusion of others. Adulterers are selfish and greedy. While they’re thinking about only themselves, consequences are building up. When the affair finally hits the fan, what will they gain? The lover will flee and leave the adulterer holding the bag. Now, you’ve lost everything: husband, kids, home, friends, family and in the some extreme cases…your life.
Instead of being unfaithful, tell your spouse why you are unhappy. Communication is the key in all marriages/relationships. If your issues or concerns can’t be resolved then take extra measures; counseling. There are many options and paths to take before you ruin your marriage by cheating. Think before you act. You’re not the only one that will be affected.
Discussion: What are your thoughts on this subject? Have you experienced betrayal in a relationship? What advice would you give someone who is going through a divorce?

Dirty Divorces: Homewreckers or Survivors by Miss KP
What do you think of people who go into a relationship with a married person, hoping for a future divorce? Are they victims or monsters? Should they expect a committed relationship from the cheater?
Imagine a sexy, well dressed guy wooing you from the start. He meets your family and your kids, impresses your best friend, and tells you all the things you’ve always wanted to hear. A dream comes true. Soon, he’s spending all his time with you, at your beck and call, causing you to put the rest of the world on pause.
Months later, or even a year…imagine the day the he proposes. “Aweeee, so sweet,” I’m sure most are saying right now. Now Stop! Imagine this…you find out he’s married, maybe even with kids. But he tells you, “No worries. I’m leaving my wife. She knows I’m in love with you.”
Like an idiot, you smile. “Okay.” Witlessly, you think you’ve won a prize. You brag to your friends. “So what he’s married, he doesn’t love her anymore. And he’s getting a divorce!” Like the trophy girlfriend you stand by your man and let love take its course.
The love triangle continues and finally his Dirty Divorce is over. Unfortunately, your drama is just beginning. Three months into the new relationship you’re up to bat. You just got dogged, even caught him red-handed yourself. “Aweeeee no,” most of you are probably saying right now.
Why would any female think that if a man is willing to break his vows with one woman then he wouldn’t with the next one? Marriage is sacred and should be honored by every living person. However, nowadays people divorce, and switch up mates just as they do sports teams. Why aren’t we in it for the long haul? And whatever happened to respect for someone else’s marriage?
Yes, things happen, some more hurtful than others. Surely some situations can be forgiven; but not all. Let’s chat about this today. Give me your thoughts on the following situations. What about your mate being out on a dinner date with someone else, is this cheating? How would you rate a secret phone call or sexually explicit text message? Does a nude photo on your mate’s phone point toward cheating? What about catching your spouse in bed with someone else? Ask yourself, would you take your man back? Or would you run downtown and file papers?
In some instances these are just normal folks who aren’t perfect and who got lost in not taking care of themselves and their marriage. And some; are just plain foul, disrespecting the institution of marriage. They live for Dirty Divorces.

Inside a Writer's World
Meet Author Danette Majette
Danette Majette was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and moved to Norfolk, Virginia when she was five. After graduating from high school and going into the U.S. Marine Corps, Danette's love for fashion led her to Nordstrom where she worked as a manager. It was there that she was advised be a friend and co-worker to write her first novel
"I Shoulda Seen It Comin" which debuted in 2005.
She followed this success two years later with her second novel 'Deep" which successfully made the Essence Magazine bestseller list in 2008. She released her third novel “Good Girl Gone Bad’ in April 2010.
After living in the Washington D.C. area for ten years, Danette moved to the Raleigh, N.C. area with her two children, Bryan Majette and Marketa
Salley. Marketa is a featured author in LCB’S Teenage Bluez. A series of urban short stories written for and by teens. Her fourth novel 'Bitter' is set to be released in February 2011.
BPM: Finish this sentence: I am Powerful because...
I am Powerful because...I have proven that you can take negative experiences in life and turn them into positive ones.
BPM: How has your experience been as a female author writing Urban Literature?
It has been great. I’ve learned a lot, experienced a great deal, and continue to grind everyday.
BPM: What is the most surprising thing you have learned while publishing books?
I think a lot of people come into this business as I did thinking it's a piece of cake but it really isn't. From the creative aspect to the revising and marketing of the book requires dedication and perseverance. It's even difficult at times. Of course, at the end of the day it's worth it.
BPM: What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a writer?
My second book "Deep" made the Essence Magazine Best Seller List in March 2008. It was a great honor.
BPM: Danette please introduce us to your new book,
Bitter.
Reese Kennedy, is a controversial radio talk-show host who was on top of the world when she was married and living the glamorous life. That is until her husband Eric, a former NBA player, leaves for her for a much younger woman. After a nasty divorce, Reese takes her frustration out on every man by bashing them on her show and soon becomes the most hated woman in Dallas.
Just when Reese thinks she s completely fed up with men, a handsome and charismatic investor named Xavier walks into her life. Trying her best to adjust to love again, Reese finally puts her guards down until she suddenly finds herself on death s door. The phrase keep your enemies close will take on a new meaning when an awful truth is revealed and Reese quickly learns that she s not the only one who s bitter.
BPM: Danette what are some of the topics that you focused on in Bitter? 1. Baby Momma Drama: A lot of people go through this. There are women who just refuse to let go of an ex-husband or spouse they have a child with. Especially if they’ve moved on with someone else and the person is the reason for the break-up with the ex. They seem to become even more enraged if the child likes the other woman. In an effort to get back at the men, some women use the child as a bargaining chip, show up at the ex’s house screaming and cussing, and often start fights with the other woman and all for what. Its ridiculous but it’s very common. How do you deal with this? And how does it affect the child?
2. Stalkers: There are a lot of sick people in the world. Stalkers are in that group. There are many reasons why people stalk someone but in my book Reese is being stalked by someone who has a vendetta against her. The person is resentful and gets even more motivated to stalk her when he or she sees how frighten and stressed Reese becomes.
3. Putting your trust in the wrong person: It so hard to know who you should trust and who you shouldn’t trust these days. People come off so sweet and loving but you soon find out that the person is the total opposite of what you thought they were. Let’s face it…some people are good actors. Then throw in the mix you trusted someone who caused irreparable damage to you or your family members. You feel betrayed because you trusted someone who you later find out isn’t who or what they said they were and in some accounts turned out to be the devil in disguise. You then feel guilty for allowing this person into your circle because you not only put yourself at risk you also put your family and friends in harms way.
BPM: What makes your books stand out and would entice a reader pick it up?
I think my covers and the title of the books will peak the reader's curiosity and entice them to pick my book up. Society has shown us that drama sells, therefore everyone wants to know the story behind what made these good women turn bad. Believe me…it’s a crazy ride!
BPM: Should every Urban Lit book have a moral or message to it?
Not necessarily…it depends on the author’s intent. I can’t speak for other authors, but I like to send a message in my books. I want to not only entertain my readers but give them information that may help them if they’re in the same situation as one of my characters. Although we read novels for enjoyment there are many teachable moments.
BPM: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your books?
I’d like for my readers to walk away with a sense of compassion for another woman’s issues. So many of us like to judge, yet we don’t realize we could be the one in that situation. In addition, use Good Girl Gone Bad as a precautionary tale. These ladies found a solution to their problem…just not a legal one. Beware and most definitely…do not follow in their footsteps.
BPM: What advice would you give a new writer?
Start by taking some creative writing classes. Also they should read different styles of writing from other authors then craft their own style.
BPM: What would you change about the publishing business and why?
I would increase the amount shelf space for African-American titles. There are so many books out there that when your book hits the shelves it’s got to sell like crazy or be replaced within a month or two by the next hot, new book.
Conversations in the Dark
The Deep Secret of Sexual Abuse in the Black Community
by Skyy Banks
It’s nothing that we sit around the dinner table and talk about. It’s not a discussion
at family gatherings. In fact, sexual abuse, in its rawest form, has become taboo in the realms of the African American culture. Yet, it is rocking our community to the core of our very existence. This imbalance, hurls us into a pit of endless cycles- the cycles of broken marriages, unhealthy relationships, and isolation.
Guilt, shame and hopelessness are all emotions associated with the trauma of child sexual abuse. The act of abuse, whether covert or overt, scars the victim. Essentially, every facet of the victim’s life has been damaged; however the affects are sometimes not evident until years later.
Affecting millions of people every year, sexual violence is a serious issue. Available data underestimate the problem due in part to how it is defined and how the data is collected. More than 70% of sexual assault cases are not reported to police and many more are not disclosed at all.
Sexual abuse crosses all boundaries; it is no respecter of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. Yet, studies show that abuse is more common among children in lower-income families. It appears that in these cases, abuse is more likely to be reported because this group tends to be in contact with public agencies more than others.
The childhood wounds of abuse often lead to lifelong mental and physical problems. For example, many psychologists believe that the inability to form healthy adult relationships is a direct result of being abused/traumatized in a child’s formative years. Most of this trauma results from being hurt by other people, including family members. Black Americans report being more severely abused in terms of sex acts, as well as the amount of force used to commit such acts. They also report being more often abused by uncles and stepfathers. As a result these victims have a difficult time developing trust. They often grow up expecting that others will violate them.
On the other side, many women trust to easily, having a hard time judging who is safe. Remember, they too have been betrayed by their family members they loved. For all intents and purposes, this has given them a false security of just handing over trust instead of requiring it to be earned or deserved. Because they have not had the opportunity to develop trustworthy relationships, women don’t know how to recognize trustworthy individuals.
A woman’s sexuality can also be affected as a result of childhood sexual abuse. Sex is confused with love or getting care because the abuser gave her attention and affection through sexual contact. Such attention can open up a woman to unwanted or forced sex. Childhood sexual abuse can also frighten women and cause them to develop negative feelings about sex. When a woman becomes sexual as an adult, she often has flashbacks of abuse and will altogether avoid sex or intimacy to avoid the negative feelings and memories associated with the childhood trauma.
Studies have shown that childhood sexual abuse is typically an intergenerational occurrence. Mothers of abused children are significantly more likely to have been sexual abuse victims themselves. To tackle the crisis, we have to empower parents and children to understand the severity of its ramifications; the ramifications of not being able to thrive in healthy adult relationships both sexually and emotionally.
The safety of our children begins with parents. Parents must teach children to have authority over their body and be aware of not necessarily people but particular circumstances. Let them know that they have the right to say “no” to whomever. If it does not feel right, sound right, or look right seek help. Self empowerment comes from self love and respect which leads to prevention.

Women In Introspection As Seen
In Black American Writing by guest writer
Hiltrud Eve
In past literature portraits of women were reflected only as
a man’s view of what women should be. What women had actually felt and
experienced had not been heard of in literature. Traditionally in most fiction,
men were the central characters and women just played a background figure. When
male writers depict female characters, they often write from a fiercely male
perspective. Women were seen primarily in relation to male protagonist who
occupied the works. Generally African American male writers were in the
depictions of the above stated observation.
Women of African origin in the United States were keenly aware of the impact of
race, class gender and oppression upon their lives. Since slavery they had
struggled individually and in groups to eradicate the multiple injustices which
their communities face. The history of black women in United States began with
the forced migration of millions of African women from the interiors of the west
coast of Africa. They were transported as human cargo across the Atlantic Ocean
to plantations in the West Indies. The enslaved Africans were then sold to
European colonies.
Black women faced misery and suffering in redefining themselves. The
enslaved black women were not given proper medical care, because blacks were
assumed to be less fragile; who gave birth easily and therefore needed less care
than white women. The women were made to work as lumberjacks and turpentine
producers in the forests of Georgia and Carolina. They hauled logs by leather
straps attached to their shoulders. They plowed using mules or oxen and
sometimes worked with heaviest implements available.
Black men under slavery were equally powerless, so the women could not depend
upon them for protection, but at time even they poured out their frustration on
the black women. Therefore the black women had to protect themselves against the
white men. Some were bold enough to rebel and fight against their masters; some
even murdered them while they managed to escape. By the end of nineteenth
century numerous clubs and organizations came to support women suffrage and gave
priority to social and political issues that affected the black community as
well as black women specifically. The
National Association of Colored Women formed in 1896 brought together more
than one hundred black women’s club.
Many movements like the Civil
Rights Movement (1955-1965), started by Martin Luther King came up to rebel
against racism presented by the Black Panthers. Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and others came face to face with
black liberation. The Black feminist movement grew out of and in response to the
Black
Liberation Movement and Women’s Movement in an effort to meet the needs of
black women who felt they were being racially oppressed in women’s movement
and sexually oppressed in the black liberation movement.
Segregation breeds hostility and fear, superiority and inferiority. In
the 1930s and 1940s, African-Americans is the southern states of the USA were
treated with contempt by the majority of white people. There was segregation.
Black people were not allowed to have good school, good jobs, good housing or
medical treatment. They were kept poor and ignorant. They had to treat white
people with respect and show great humility. They were employed by whites, but
were paid very little.
Black children feared whites, and in fact, as in the case of the author, did not
think of them as being human. At that time in America, women had a lower place
in society that man, both for whites and Blacks. During the times of
slavery, the order of importance in American Society was clearly mapped out.
First the white males, next white women, then black males, and finally black
women. So being a black woman was thought to be as low in society as one
could be. They were servants to whites and servants to men. However,
things were different in the north. Blacks had a much easier time than those in
the south. Black women in general would suffer the same harsh and
unbearable treatment from black men, as they would white, physical abuse,
emotional abuse, and sexual assault were all a part of the everyday lives of
African American women during the age of slavery.
Literature and the Black Womanist/Feminist Movement
Many writers defined the Black
Feminist Movement, but the most notable is Alice
Walker, defining black feminist movement as “Womanism”. Alice
Walker, one of the leading voices amongst black American women writers, has
produced an acclaimed body of work including: poetry, novels, short stories,
essays, and political themed criticisms. Her writings portrays the struggle of
black people throughout history. She is praised for her insightful and riveting
portraits of black culture, in particular the experiences of women in a often
times sexist and racist society.
Alice Walker in her acclaimed womanist prose In Search Of
Our Mother’s Garden defines “Womanist” as “a black
feminist or feminist of color. ” Three main writers heralded the
rise of a new black women’s creative activism. Michelle Wallace’s
controversial Black Macho and the Myth of the Superwoman (1978).
Ntozake Shanges’s explosive play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered
Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf (1975) and Alice Walker’s powerful and
provocative novel The Color Purple (1982).
Black feminist groups had to overcome three mammoth challenges that no other
feminist group had to face. The first and most important
challenge was to “convince other black women that feminism was their power to
claim. Feminism was not just for other races of women.” 2) They
also had to demand that women of other races “join this fight, this movement,
with them and embrace diversity” and 3) “face the equally
misogynist and gender bias attitude of Black Nationalists.” Alice Walker
and other womanists pointed out that black women experienced a different and
more intense kind of oppression from that of white women.
“ Black Women” says Alice Walker “are of America’s greatest
heroes… Not enough credit has been given to the black women who have been
oppressed beyond recognition.” A good majority of Walker’s novels,
short stories, essays, and poems focus on issues of civil rights, emphasizing
especially the plight of black women, who suffer the dual oppression of racism
and sexism.
Black feminists contend that the liberation of black women entails freedom for
all people, of all races, classes and religions since it would bring
about the end of racism, sexism, and class oppression. The black feminist
writers through their works aimed at demolishing the negative portrayal of black
people by white writers and society. They presented their people as complete,
whole and independent and not as the downtrodden people who were suppressed for
hundreds of years. Though black feminist writers wrote of a particular race, yet
they had a universal appeal because the oppression of women exists in all
communities, male-female relationships, emotions, feelings were same for all
human beings.
Legendary
Feminist Writers: Toni Morrison, Maya Angleou, Jamaica Kincaid and
Rita Dove were also noted feminist writers who talked about the sufferings of
black American women in their writings. Other important
Black feminist authors include: Kimberle Crenshaw, Sapphire, Jewelle
Gomez, Ann Allen Shockley, Bell Hooks, June Jordan, Patricia Hill Collins,
Audre Lorde, Becky Birtha, Donna Allegra, and Cheryl Clarke.
The legendary Toni Morrison's writing created a sound impact of the
representation of Black women in literature. Toni Morrison’s novels
revolved round the theme of isolation and identity, tales of the disposed and
disillusioned black voice. Toni Morrison’s novels revealed a black
woman’s life centered around a love for children, for parents, and bereft
always of an autonomous self. Toni Morrison’s novels stressed the need
for self-discovery and self- identity leading to self- actualization.
Zora
Neal Hurston was serious cataloger of African American folk stories,
dialect and religious practices. Hurston wrote four novels and more than 50
published short stories, plays, and essays. She is a legend in the
literary world. Several of Hurston's literary contemporaries criticized
Hurston's use of dialect as a representation of African American lore. The
credit of Hurston’s rise to current literary greatness goes to Alice Walker.
An article, "In Search of Zora Neale Hurston", written by Alice Walker
for the March 1975 issue of Ms. Magazine renewed interest in Hurston's work.
In her works, Walker found African American people were
presented as complete and complex individual undiminished by the negative
stereotypes of the characterizations depicted by the society. Hurston was
rejected by society for picturing African American people as whole and complete
in themselves instead of downtrodden, oppressed people. Many contemporary
writers today strive to bring the same solid sense of unity, peace, purpose and
freedom to Black people world wide. Who are your favorite modern day feminist
writers?

Infidelity by Ericka Williams
"Once a cheater, always a cheater" is a popular saying. Is it true?
Some people believe that if you are not married, then you are single and free to "see" whomever you want to, until you take vows and become committed to your spouse. Others believe that if you are in a relationship with someone, it is cheating to talk to someone of the opposite sex; especially if the conversation is one that cannot be had in the presence of your significant other. To this group, going out on a date or any intimate contact with someone else is wrong and drama will unfold.
Nowadays, with Facebook, MySpace, and a million other social networking sites, not to mention, everything else that we can do online, it is very hard to trust or be in a committed relationship with someone at all—married or single. One cannot possibly make sure that their "other half" is not involved with someone else with all the possible ways to "mix and mingle".
So what is a person to do in this day of AIDS epidemics? How do you guarantee that you’re safe and in a monogamous relationship? Some believe that "snooping" is unacceptable, but I beg to differ. Yes, we all would love to be able to just trust and believe that our partner is being true. But, isn't a cheater also a liar? So how can someone who is cheating on you tell you the truth? I will be frank in saying that if I suspect that my "man" is cheating, that I will do my homework. I will do what I have to do to protect myself, my interests, and my health. I am very open when it comes to being in a relationship, because if there is nothing to hide. I don't have to hide my cell phone, or have a lock on it. What about the right to privacy? I don't need it if I am being faithful. My business is my man's business. What are your thoughts on this?
Yes, men and women are different and men oftentimes feel trapped in relationships, so it doesn't necessarily mean that he is cheating because he doesn't want you reading his texts from his "ex." Then again, "Why can't I?" if there's nothing in them indecent. I think the problem really lies in lying to begin with. A man, or woman for that matter who is not ready to be in a committed relationship, should not commit to being in one. The reason many people "go along" with being in a relationship, when they are not ready for one, is to hold on to the person they love, until they are ready to be loyal.
But that is just a selfish way to live. It will only come back to bite you when you get caught out there. It is not fair to the person who you are supposed to love and it is cruel to put their health in danger because you are not ready. An Essence poll showed that many Black men who cheat admitted that they do not always or regularly use condoms when they cheat. That is just not fair.
There are so many distractions and attractions for people, but there is also such a thing as self-control. Actually, it is understandable that people will have urges, but do they have to act them out? Why is it that a man will throw away his whole family for a night of indiscretion? Why is it that having one woman is not enough? I must side with some men who say that their women get comfortable, and no longer are concerned with keeping them satisfied, once they have the man. It happens. I must also say that there is a noticeable lack of respect from the single woman in regards to married men, with wives at home! Unfortunately nowadays, anything goes, relationships are temporary, and people are only together until they break up.
What happened to true commitment and to “death do us part?”
Are we really doomed to lives of expected infidelity? What’s sad is that nothing is sacred, cherished, or sustained. Many children will not know what it is like to have two parents in the same home; just as many children of divorce must see the breakup of their families. All while, some just continue to "stick and move." Are there any people in this world who want to stick together, through thick and thin and live out the real til’ death do us part? It doesn't look that way. If you are in a committed and loving relationship, speak up and tell us about it! Bring back the HOPE to our relationships.

Domestic Violence and
Revenge
Two Sides of the Same Coin
By Ericka Williams
Domestic Violence is a touchy and controversial subject. In society it is considered unacceptable and unconceivable for a man to physically batter his girlfriend or wife. The recent incident with singers Chris Brown and Rihanna was a publicized and highly debated event. Many famous people expressed discontent with, criticized, and verbally condemned Chris Brown; while siding with and supporting Rihanna, without being witnesses to the occurrence. I have two conflicting feelings in regards to domestic violence. Generally, I believe that it is wrong to hit a person that you are supposed to care for, because that person may be critically injured or killed.
Many women have died at the hands of the men they loved. It is a dangerous habit and a problem that escalates over time, as many statistics prove. Relationships are so multi-faceted and often times built on foundations of lust, long before love. Add is a little stress, a few lies by omission and things get out of hand quickly.
Many young women have the misconception that if a man puts his hand on them, it is because he loves them enough to lose control, because if he didn't care he wouldn't get that angry. Herein lies the problem: a man who does not know how to deal with his emotions or control his anger, is a man to fear. When a man starts the cycle of abuse often times the assaults become worse and worse as time goes on and more and more frequent. What may begin as a shove may turn into a punch and ultimately a murder.
Emotions run high in matters of the heart and volatile relationships don't become healthy ones easily.
When things are going great is not the time to decide whether you are with the right man. However, the time to assess who you really love is when there are issues or conflicts. No one should hurt you in order to show their love. Your spouse or mate should be able to deal with problems with their mind and not their fists. When the schoolyard fighting days are over, adults need to know how to handle situations.
As an author, I write about these situations because I see them unfold daily; most likely not receiving the same publicity of Chris and Rihanna. My book, A Woman Scorned, addresses the issue of domestic violence from the female abuser’s point of view. The main character, Brielle Prescott, remained in an abusive marriage partially because of her physical abuse by her parents as a child. The emotional scars and distress from being battered lasts, affecting the victim for a lifetime, in many cases, in real life and in my fictional tales.
No matter how damaged the individual is there really an excuse to hit someone you are involved with? What if she/he cheats? What if she/he lies about where they were and who they were with? What if she spends the money that should have gone to bills? Is there really any justification for physical abuse except for the fact that it comes from lack of rationale. When a man lashes out, he may not intend to black an eye, bust a lip, break a limb, or commit a stabbing or shooting, but that does not mean it won't happen. As a woman who has dealt with more than one hostile and violent man in my lifetime, I know that it is by the grace of God that I was never badly hurt. However, I could have been. I choose not to excuse that behavior in my "seasoned" time as a woman.
I decided to heed the warning signs and not leave my life in the hands of an irrational man, because life and death are only a breath and heartbeat away from each other, and in one split second you can be gone. Contrary to what I just expressed, however, I do understand what rage feels like. I have been wronged by past boyfriends, as well, and it is not a good feeling. I know how it feels to lose control and lash out with my fists. I have been on both sides of this issue and that’s why I wrote A Woman Scorned. My main character, Brielle, is a victim and a perpetrator. She becomes the very thing she had come to hate, an abuser. She resorts to revenge, which is also a form of domestic violence—if violence is the means to getting that revenge.
How do we know what Rihanna did to Chris Brown to make him lash out? How do we know that she did not hit him first? Many might say that it doesn't matter because a woman is not capable of hurting a man the way a man is able to hurt a woman. However, is that true when a woman has a weapon? No, it is not. I have brought Domestic Violence and Revenge together because there is sometimes a marriage of the two in relationships. Domestic Violence is sometimes a reaction to a real injustice that is done to someone and Revenge is a reaction to the same. Therefore, what I believe we must do as a society is be more understanding, as opposed to condemning.
Next, offer help to those who are on both sides of the issue. Chris Brown expressed a feeling of betrayal from Oprah for "all that he had done for her" because he said that he expected Oprah to offer him some advice or assistance in how to heal as well. Rihanna was not the only one who needed support. He is human, as we all are. I am not condoning abusers or anyone who inflicts pain on another.
But let’s be real, it happens, on both sides!
None of us can handle things the right way, at all times. Emotions run high the matter of love. So why is it that we find it okay, to kill the perpetrator? Isn't that violence too? What about trying to find the root of the problem? Let’s try to find the stressors that created the violence and address those issues, instead of rushing to judgment. I am sure many of you have opinions on revenge and what defines domestic violence. Share your views on the subject too, let’s talk about it.

Intimate
Conversation with Cairo
Cairo divides
his time between Jersey and California, and is the author of The Man Handler and
The Kat Trap. His many travels to Egypt are what inspired his pen name.
BPM: What makes you powerful as a writer? Where do you find your
inspiration?
My ability to write in both male/female voice, to mentally seduce, and create
erotic images in my reader's minds through words that leave a lasting impression
are what make me a powerful writer. My inspiration comes from the universe.
BPM:
Introduce us to your book, Daddy Long Stroke, and the main characters. Daddy Long Stroke is a voyeuristic look into the mind of a womanizer who
manipulates and seduces women by using what he's got--good looks, chiseled
physique, charisma, and sexual prowess--to get what he wants without remorse, or
regret. The main character in Daddy Long Stroke is the sexy
Alexander Maples a.k.a Daddy Long Stroke. Arrogant and self-indulged, he
is what every woman secretly craves in the bedroom--rough, rugged, and ravenous.
And he is always happy to deliver.
When it comes
to pleasing a woman, he knows no boundaries, leaving no area untouched, not even
her heart--or her wallet. But love is the last thing on his mind. Getting paid,
and whetting his sexual appetite are the only things that motivate this
salacious gigolo. And any woman trying to claim him finds herself on the
receiving of heartache, tears, and drama.
Dramatic, bold
and racy, Daddy Long Stroke uncovers the shocking and painful reality of
some men's belief systems about women and sex. Written in raw, graphic language,
Daddy Long Stroke is a cautionary tale of one man's insatiable thirst for sex
and his quest to bed down as many women he possibly can—no matter the costs,
and no matter who gets hurt in the process.
BPM: Are your characters from the portrayal of real people?
Although Daddy Long Stroke is a fictitious character, I'm sure many of us
know of someone who is like (or similar to) the main character in this book.
BPM: What specific situation or revelation prompted you to write your
book? Daddy Long Stroke was written for all the women who crave thick
chocolate, and the bad boys who serve it.
BPM: Who do you want to reach with your book and the message within?
I want to reach the sexually liberated and open-minded. The message in Daddy
Long Stroke is don't get emotionally attached to someone who is only looking for
no-strings attached sex. Bottom line, everyone who makes good love to you isn't
always gonna be good for you.
BPM: What do you think makes your book different from others on the
same subject?
Besides the fact that the sex scenes are on fire, what makes my book different
from others on the same subject is that I give it to readers rough and raw. It's
blunt, graphic, in your face dialogue. Period.
BPM:
Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?
Aside from great sex tips and a toe-curling, stimulating read, I want readers to
gain insight into their own sexual behaviors. For them to indulge their
sexualities respectfully. And to enjoy the sexual revolution responsibly!
Meet
YONDER - Author of What I do is TABOO. Yonder- the maker of the Taboo series, which started the movement of
Taboo Talk Raw and Uncut.
Ella:
Yonder, tell us how you got started in publishing. Has it been successful for
you?
My first book hit the streets and book stores in 2005. I have been writing for years and decided after reading some Zane that I would try my hand in the writing industry.
Once first book hit the street after I would do book signing folks would not leave. They would stick around for hours asking questions. Mostly about relationships and sex. This is how
Taboo Talk came about. This was the genius idea of my publicist and business partner Troy Rawlings. We started hosting events instead of just doing book signing, we would have it a local night spot or hotel ballroom, feed you and have live band such as Elliot Levine. Then after we break the ice, we would do questionnaire and have open forum about love, sex, relationship and anything in between.
Taboo Talk Raw and Uncut has gotten so popular that my publicist hosts an on line radio show in Los Angeles with 20,000 listeners per broadcast on
www.925kyhy.com
Ella: Tell us about your passion for writing. What legacy will your
writing leave society?
My passion for writing has not actually been released, there are at least 100 other books in me, ranging from erotic to self to mystery, I even have some spiritual books I am working on.
My legacy is for my two kids and my wife to finish there books. Publishing books will be the family business. This will be the legacy that will be carried on for future generations.
Ella: Please introduce you to- What I Do is Taboo. Tell
us about the stars of the books.
My characters are from portrayal of real people. There are three main characters in each book, you have Henson Phillip III.
He is your typical young man growing up in the sex crazed revolution, but he is not part of the culture. He is well read and educated with a good job, until his alter ego starts to disrupt his life by exploring everything Taboo. Maggie is the Diva that Maggie’s Madness explores. She is a housewife that is bored to death, so she starts to act out sexually by cheating on her husband and doing something’s that is truly breath taking.
The last character is Mr. Roarke, he has his own consulting firm, but his issue is he can’t make up his mind with the ladies; he is a born player that decides to start caring. But this gets him all emotional unavailable which takes him on a rollercoaster of wild sexual experiences with more women than he can handle.
Ella: What was the inspiration behind this series of adult themed books?
The inspiration to write this piece of work came from various directions. Including my own life.
Ella: Did you self-publish? What advice do you offer others coming into
publishing?
My first book I wrote in 40 days, second book 60, and third book one week. I did self publish my novels.
My most valuable lesson about the publishing industry is to learn how to play the game. Basically read and talk to as many people in the industry and always keep abreast on all aspects.
Here are some writers that inspired me, K.Lowery Moore, Jessica Tilles, Ronda
Rountree, T.L. Rawlings, Saundra Harris, Treasure Blue, J.Tremble, Melinda Robinson, and
T.T. Bridgeman.
Ella:
Yonder what's next for you? How can the readers get all of the books and
follow you online? Taboo Book 3 hit the stores on July 4, 2009. What I do is Taboo 4, and 5 will be out
soon in 2010. The Taboo Series is a seven book series. Here's a sneak peek at Taboo Book
3:

Her second interracial novel titled, Unclear and Present Danger will be released February 2, 2010. This highly anticipated novel deals with the love between an African-American woman and Arab-American policeman living in New York City. It deals with the social question,
What is a true American?
When Lightning Strikes! a contemporary romance that sizzles from beginning to end deals with a deep, committed love triangle between one woman and two men. Grace foxfire had given up on ever finding the love of her life. A not so chance encounter in a nightclub in Atlanta whereas she literally falls into the arms of Livingston Lockhart. From the moment she set eyes on him she felt as if she had been struck by lightning. The icing on the cake was that he was an Omega Psi Phi fraternity brother to her play brother Jethro Newman. Grace’s life is complete with the reuniting of Jethro but he’s a changed man. Gone is the timid youngster who she grew up with and she finds herself fighting and having to come to terms with the special love she has always had in her heart for him. When Lightning Strikes!. deals with a woman who has to decide what to do if lightning does indeed strike twice for a woman and two wonderful men who cherish you and want to build a life with you. This realistic novel deals with the social themes of betrayal by in-laws, and coming to terms with baggage from an embarrassing childhood.
Ella: Are your characters portrayals of real people?
Yes and no. The main characters are fictitious but the setting and events cited in the novel are real. The setting is Lake City, South Carolina the birthplace of my parents. During the fifties, Reverend DeLaine, a minister and principal is the small suburb of Summerton initiated with Thurgood Marshall the petition that separate but equal school system is unconstitutional. After the KKK found out they burned his house down and the family moved to Lake City.
There his son B.B. DeLaine, met my parents and became their friend. I use Lake City as the setting because it is the home of my family ancestry and very dear to my heart.
Also I want to emphasize to readers that in order to make changes in the world and make it a better place you can live anywhere.
In the novel one of the social themes that I address is prescription drug addiction. One of the main characters fall into a deep depression after a tragedy and without warning becomes hooked on sleeping medication. This is a common occurrence in today’s society with all the daily stress of trying to cope and make it in today’s tough world. Another social them I deal with is family counseling. Every person that I know has baggage from childhood. Some more than others and this can stop one from being the happiest they can be in adulthood until they deal with the issues that haunt them.
Ella:
What was the most powerful chapter in the book for you?
The main character has a recurring dream. Every time there’s a loss of someone important to her in her lifetime she dreams the identical thing. In the novel she tries to warn her loved ones to be careful but they dismiss her worries. I think that there are times in every person’s life when they know that something bad is going to happen and because there isn’t concrete evidence people dismiss their fears.
Ella: Share with us your latest news or upcoming book releases.
My fourth novel Unclear and Present Danger-Genesis-Press, Inc. will be released February 1, 2010.

Ella: Who did you write this book for and why?
I write this novel for all the women in the world who have given up on finding Mr. Right. I write this novel for all the women in the world who refuse to settle down with Mr. Wrong. I write this novel for all women who feel they’ve been betrayed by relatives or someone you felt close to. I write this novel for all women who have become dependent on something and feel as if they can’t get rid of their demons. I write this novel for all people who have had a rough childhood and just can’t seem to let go of the demons. I write this novel because there is so much of me in it.
Ella: Tell us a little about your main characters. Who was your favorite and why?
Grace Foxfire, the heroine is a teacher in Atlanta. I also teach school. Grace has a love in her heart for children. Because of that I feel an affinity for her character. I don’t have any children but for some reason even when I’m not working I am surrounded by them. Grace leaves her job in order to recuperate from tragedy and somehow she finds herself raising another person’s child. I can see that in my future.
Livingston Lockhart loves Grace from the moment he laid eyes on her. He can’t believe that she’s single and swoops her up changing his life to be near her. I like a man that know what he wants and who he wants. His Alpha personality is to die for.
My favorite character is Jethro Newman. Not only is he a wonderful man like Livingston Lockhart but he doesn’t let a tragic childhood stop him from being a keeper.
Jethro Newman is a one of a kind man. He is Grace’s play brother and has always known that his love for her was not one of family but one for lovers. Despite his love for her, he steps aside because he puts her happiness in front of his. But when tragedy strikes he becomes her knight in shining armor saving her from all harm.
Review for WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES!
Cameron’s lovely story has an interesting twist, and readers will enjoy watching two beautiful and successful people find love at first sight and ask themselves if lightning dies indeed strike twice. This book will bring tears to your eyes and revive your belief in happily ever after.
Summary: When Grace Foxfire literally runs into Livingston Lockhart in an Atlanta nightclub, their chemistry sizzles. Eventually, they buy a home together and plan their storybook wedding, yet Livingston’s best friend and fraternity brother, Jet Newman, secretly wishes he was the one who held Grace’s heart.
The night before the wedding, disaster hits. With all hope lost, Grace must deal with greedy in-laws. Jet tries to help her get through her grief, but will his feelings for her be reciprocated? Will her sisterly love for him change into something more?

Man.
In
a nutshell, two women are dating the same man and don’t know it - in a city
infamous for its imbalanced ratio of women to men. In a town that’s city
slick and country cool, the real drama unfolds when the two women find out about
one another despite the carefully-orchestrated mechanisms of the main male
character, Damion Eric Cross, who is undoubtedly at a crossroads as to what
woman to choose.
An
odyssey of sorts, the journey of the main characters in 7:33 am is
told from three different points of view (pov’s). The screenplay,
vividly written, captures the essence of man-sharing, relationship dynamics,
free will and the power of choice, comically, eloquently and without judgment.
Everyone - men and women, can relate to love, lust, betrayal and consequences
– which ultimately create our life lessons.
The
script is a virtual candy store for actors, and offers a range of simple to
complex multi-dimensional characters full of flaws and contagious life energy.

Kanika A. Reese,
The Matchless Novelist, debuts in the literary field with her fast paced, drama filled, heart wrenching novel entitled
Disillusion. True to life characters and art of description, mixed with a gift of storytelling and poetic expression, encompass a writing style uniquely her own and unlike anyone else’s in the
Urban Fiction genre. With talent recognized by others and at first not by herself, Reese decided to follow her leads. With the guidance of her mentor,
author Michelle Larks, and a few others along the way, she completed the necessary steps and became a published author.
For years, becoming a published author was just a mere dream.
Reese attended Wenonah High School in Birmingham , Alabama and Alabama State University in Montgomery , Alabama . She resides in Birmingham , Alabama and is diligently working on the final sequel Disillusion Too? She strongly encourages individuals to find and follow their dreams and passions. She says, “Think, act, do. Don’t let anyone stop you,” echoes her key to success.
DISILLUSION by Kanika A. Reese
When things appear to be real, they're usually a form of...Disillusion.
Haelo Barring...a successful young lady trying to find her way in mainstream America in the South. Birmingham , Alabama to be exact.
Tarion Anderson...Haelo's former live-in lover that hasn't accepted the fact that their relationship is over.
Immensely surrounded by the drama that unfolds in their lives, Haelo and company find themselves shifting away from their goals and dreams. Will Tarion ever be able to forgive himself for the destructive path he paved? Can Haelo bear the true meaning of her name? The Universe provides pertinent information -if only they choose to listen.
Q: Kanika, I like the book intro above! What inspired you to write this story?
All I can say is LIFE inspired the writing of this novel.
Q: What issues in today's society have you addressed in the book, Disillusion?
Several issues in today’s society dominate the storyline for Disillusion such as domestic violence, the importance of interpersonal relationships, suicide, depression, cancer, death, addiction, financial disasters, office politics, decision making and more.
Q. What impact will
Disillusion have on the community?
I think Disillusion will have a drastic impact on the community in a positive way. Disillusion will hopefully help people identify more with themselves and in turn help individuals make better decisions in life. Life’s a bit rough for most of us especially during this recession so optimistically Disillusion will help people get through these trying times while not loosing faith or giving up despite the unexpected.
Q: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp and share?
There is a strong need for interpersonal relationships. I want readers to know and understand that lying or hiding the truth doesn’t result in positive outcomes. Be true to yourself and be truthful to others.
Q: What sets your book apart from other books in your genre?
Disillusion is a novel whereas the characters tell their own story. I allowed the characters to speak and live their own lives; Lives they created and not created by the author. Disillusion has some of the most relatable and realistic characters readers have ever seen. This sets Disillusion a part from others in the same genre. Plus it will hopefully reveal a different side of Birmingham, Alabama ’s urban life.
Q: Do you write full time? Describe your writing schedule for our readers.
Yes I write full time. I start early and end late. I write in 2-3 hour increments, about 3-4 times a day. When the story presents itself to me the words flow, I just have to type it out. I don’t do outlines but I do keep a detailed spreadsheet which details such information as chapter titles, page count, starting and ending word count and the number of words written per day. This spreadsheet helps me to keep track of and actually see my progress.

Ella:
Who did you write this book for?
This book was written for anyone that enjoy good books with great storylines
that keep their attention with unpredictable characters.
Ella: What issues in today’s society have you addressed in the
book?
The issue of today’s society of gold digging women that have the motto of
‘using what they have to get what they want’ was addressed in this book. It
shows how easy it is for women to manipulate men in order to get the things they
want and desire. It’s an easy thing to do but is it a good thing to do?
Ella: Are your characters from the portrayal of real
people?
Yes and No. This is a fictional novel. None of the characters are real people.
However, a lot of their backgrounds and some of the things they go through are a
compilation of a couple of different people with an interesting twist.
Ella: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to
grasp and share?
Yes. The message I want readers to grasp is basically the subtitle of the novel:
A price to pay. So many people live their life never thinking about the
consequences of their actions. Whether good or bad, you will pay the
price.
Ella: What is the best piece of advice you would give an aspiring
author?
WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! Never give up and learn all you can about the publishing
business.

Ella: Introduce us to your book When I'm Loving You. When I'm Loving You is a little more than a romance novel. It is a story of three best friends overcoming major obstacles in their lives in order to pursue the healthy, loving relationship they deserve. Despite their personal struggles, these women live passionately and stand on faith.
Natasha gets a second chance at love after the tragic loss of her only child, but will pursuing this love be worth the fight? Dianne is happily married until she becomes the stepmother of a child she didn't know existed. Consequently, are there any unresolved issues from the past that will threaten her marriage? Lynda finally realizes that she can focus and love only one man, but will her "love them and leave them" ways catch up with her?
Walk the journey with these three women as they deal with matters of the heart while enduring the hardships of marriage,
motherhood and love. You will cheer these women on as you read how Natasha copes with her pain, how Dianne deals with uncertainty and how Lynda tries to let go of her promiscuity. This provocative story about love and relationships will definitely leave you wanted more!
Ella:
So is most of your story true?
The story is based on some actual events that happened to me or around me; however, a large portion of it written from fantasy. I am a day dreamer so for instance, I would meet a guy and I would write a chapter or two about how I think it would be if we got together. That's how I came up with most of the story, from fantasizing. Most of my characters, especially the male characters, are a blend of people that I've come in contact with and they left an impact on my life both positive and negative.
Ella: What about the female characters? Are they based on actual people?
Now this is an interesting question to answer. I based my three main characters, Natasha, Dianne and Lynda on different aspects of myself. Almost as if I have a split personality.
:Ella: Who are some of your favorite authors?
I am a huge fan of mainly contemporary and romance authors. My favorite authors are Terry McMillan, Mary B. Morrison, the late Bebe Moore Campbell, and Michael Baisden, although he doesn't write books right now. Those authors have heavily influenced my career. I've recently discovered some romance authors that I enjoy and they are Francis Ray, Brenda Jackson and Wayne Jordan.
Ella: Are there any books that you've read that have influenced your life?
Oh my goodness yes. I remember reading Iyanla Vanzant's book, In the Meantime, and I felt like a different person by the time I was done. It made me take a deep look into my soul. Then A few years ago, I was feeling down about my job and life in general and a co-worker purchase a book for my birthday and it was called, Your Best Life Now, by Joel Osteen. That book is what gave me the courage and strength to really pursue my dream as an author. And finally, The Self-Publishing Manual by Dan Poynter. I probably wouldn't have pursued publishing my book myself if it wasn't for this manual.
Ella: Why did you decide to Self-Publish?
I decided to self-publish for a variety a reasons. Mainly, I wanted my own business, so I figured I would set up my own publishing company in order to pursue becoming a published author. To be honest, when I first wrote my book, it was never my intention to submit my manuscript to a major publishing company. I want a play to be adapted from my manuscript so I can see my work on stage. I always tell my friends that I don't want to be a "shelf" author. With that I mean, an author that just has books on the shelf just for people to read. I want to see my characters on a stage or on the movie screen.
:Ella: Do you have plans to write for film?
Oh absolutely! The person I want to bring my characters to life is Tyler Perry. Also, my sister is an independent film maker. I would like for her to bring my characters to life as well.
Ella: What is next on the menu for K. Lowery Moore?
I am currently giving my first book, When I'm Loving You, a complete make-over. I've learned so much since I published the book in November 2007 that I want to implement some of the things I've learned. I love that book so much that I am willing to keep rewriting it until I see those characters on someone's stage or on film. That is my goal, period.
I am also working on the sequel to When I'm Loving You. I know a lot of people are waiting and I don't want those readers who have enjoyed my work to forget about me. I plan to release the sequel early next year.
A non-fiction, women's inspirational book and another poetry project is on the way as well in
2010.
Ella: Is there anything else that you want your audience to know about you?
Yes, I want everyone to know that I am very passionate about the stories and poems I write. I am an author who writes from a positive perspective on love and life in general. It will always be my mission to motivate and uplift others.
More importantly, I am a survivor of gun violence. The day I got hit by a stray bullet that missed my spine by less than one-inch, was the day the Lord spoke to me and let me know that my purpose here was not over. That no matter how hard I feel life is, I have to keep believing and keep standing on faith. There is a song that I listen to whenever I feel down and it's "Victory" by Yolanda Adams on the Gospel Soundtrack. In that song she says that "You can't tell me that God isn't real, 'cause I got the victory and that's why I am still here." Just those words, "I'm still here," means so much to me. So no matter what I'm going through, I keep in my mind, that I have the victory from God and it is my calling, through my writing, to let others know they do as well.
"Success begins with the courage to make a difference." - K. Lowery Moore
