Intimate Conversation with
Lord'Williams
Lord'Williams resides with his wife of 30 plus years in Cypress Hills section of East New York, in Brooklyn, NY. He is currently employed by state of New York. He attends college where he is currently working toward the completion of a B.A. in English, and thinking about an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling.
Ella: Introduce us to your new book, A Stem full of Thorns and the main characters.
They're back! William, Yvonne, Joann, Robert, Dana, Andrea, and a host of others in this chilling sequel
to Shadows of the Heart, my debut novel. The stakes have risen and the cost is unbearable for all those who remain connected to William.
How much are you willing to pay for love?
The charming, sexy, lovable William R. Green has pushed everyone beyond their limits and became
a man who must be stop. William's recent events forced the Heavens to react, and Yvonne must kill her husband of 25 years, but will she, can she? Is her love for William stronger than the commandment of God?
Her choices will determine who lives, and who dies. Can she afford to make the wrong decision?
Dana has been bewitched by her lover's ex-wife and fights to regain control over her life. She knows she needs the guidance of William, but will her love for Kevin
force her to end that relationship with William, the one she needs desperately? Will she?
The sweet home-wrecker, Joann just can not drop her old ways. She spends the night
with a powerful demon from the dark-side, filled with drugs and sex.
Joann must decide can she keep her faith and love in William, or lose all she
cherishes.
Andrea's love for William forces her husband to New York, to assassinate William, while her mother create plots of her own. Lines will be drawn, love will be tested, and blood will spilled
in A Stem full of Thorns, release Oct. 1,2009
Ella: Are your characters from the portrayal of real people?
I have been trying to keep this a secret for a number of years, but I dislike
lying because I'm really is not good at it, to say the least. These characters are actual people, ex-lovers, friends, and victims placed within a storyline
based on some of the truth and alot of my vivid imagination. Their names has been changed to protect them.
Ella:
What inspired you to write A Stem full of Thorns? Why now?
My readers, family, friends, and the special ones inspired me to revise and release the Unicorns. There is a lot going on between these pages and within the character's lives. They are a reflection of so many other peoples who are living similar lives spiritually, recklessly, and who are clueless as to their role from God's eyes.
Why now? If we are truly in the Last Days, then the secrets are to be
revealed and questions are to be answered. The Unicorns will invoke thoughts you will ask of yourself, your lover, and your God.
Ella: What issues in today's society have you addressed in A Stem full of
Thorns?
In Shadow of the Hearts, I addressed light skinned/dark skinned, child molestation, abuse, love/lust, scripture, and
trust. As much as people say they can not stay in a relationship where there is no trust, I say "BS, you just haven't found that one you love enough to go through it with."
A very large number of relationship are on going with little or no trust. William and Yvonne
are a married couple who been living on a roller coaster for half the marriage. In A Stem Full of Thorns,
the second part, the characters deal with the issues of love, trust, and betrayal. Scripture is questioned again.
Also, our reasoning for doing what we do for love.
Ella: How difficult was it to complete the novel?
A Stem Full of Thorns took some time to complete due to my issue of having Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome and promoting Shadows of the Heart. So getting back into the groove of Thorns did not come easy, but I have my readers.
What loyal fans I have to thank for giving me desire to forge forward and complete this long awaited novel.
Ella: Did you self-publish A Stem full of Thorns?
I self published my novels. It's was hard as hick to find an literary agent and publisher for Shadows. It took me six months to learn and write a query letter that would gain the interest of an agent. I received some positive reaction from a number of agents, but I fail to deliver a polished product. So I lived and learned both sides of publishing, from pushing a book from the keyboard to shelf.
Ella: What is your most valuable lesson about the publishing industry?
I learned you can't sit down and think a book will sell itself. There are 10's of thousands of good writers, with great stories and you have to be ready to step into this world, with your best foot leading so your other foot can get in. Do your research. Edit, edit, and edit. Find someone/ or workshop in the business, you don't know, to read over your work. Their evaluation will be honest.
You must learn the publishing business as well as your craft. See your novels as a product, see your name as a Brand, and business as business.
Honestly ask yourself, can you sell your product and what will your product say about your name.
Ella: What writers inspire you and why?
I have been and am inspired by writers I have or had a relationship with. Writers like Donna Hill, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Zane, Dr. Jeffery
Gardere, Leila Jefferson, Shani Greene-Dowdell, and Felecia Trotter, well known or not at all, have all shared something of themselves, whether that be inspiration, business sense, or their truth have inspired me to be at my best and give nothing less than myself to those I touch.
Ella: What did you hope to accomplish by writing this particular story?
I hope to invoke dialog. I just wish to see people comment, bring up discussions about the characters and their situations.
Ella: Share with us your latest news, awards or upcoming book releases.
My next book release will be a complete Romance novel, and yes it will have lots of drama to keep the pages turning. Look for "The After Rains", early 2010.
Also in 2010, the Unicorns series continues with "Petals In the Sand," and lastly,
I might release a project very close to my heart and my faith, "Stepping Into Spirituality: Basic Christian Knowledge."
As for Word 2 a Page Publishers, with the Lord's blessing, I should be releasing the work of two new authors. So there is alot to look forward to. Keep your eyes on my website, my
blogs, and fan club for the latest news and events.

Intimate Conversation with Gracie Hill
Gracie, tell us about yourself.
Have you always wanted to be an author?
It was never my dream to be an author. God gave me the title for several books and filled my mind with the words to put on the pages. I then followed the path God laid out for me. I am a member of the Chicago Writers Association and I enjoy the challenge writing offers me.
Introduce us to your new book, Sorrows of the Heart.
Sorrows of the Heart is a heart wrenching love story about a man that falls in love with two women. Somara Hughes is the woman that shows him what love feels like. Ava Jones is the woman that will cause him to jeopardize what he treasures most in his life. As the book unfolds, you will come to know Malcolm Johnson as a man with a good heart who is willing to do what ever it takes to be his brother’s keeper. But he’s also a dedicated playboy who has no plans to give his time or heart to any one woman. But the unexpected beautiful and sexy woman in the red dress, Somara Hughes, will make him change his mind.
Ava Jones is seductive and determined to find her way into Malcolm’s life and his heart. The fact that he is already involved with Somara won’t stop her. Malcolm finds himself on a winding road of confrontations, affairs of the heart, and sorrows that land him in a place he never thought he would be. A triangle love affair, his desire to be a father, and his determination to protect his family, will drive him to the point of revenge that will cost somebody’s life. The characters are engaging and stand up on the page to tug at your heartstrings as you are reading the book. And the storyline will make you laugh and cry as you think about your own love affairs.
Who did you write this book for? Why?
I wrote the book for women in an effort to encourage them to be true to self and be wise in all walks of life. It is critical that we look beyond the attractive features of a man and allow the eyes of our heart to see clearly what is before us. Thus empowering women to make wise relationship decisions. Thousands of books are published each year.
What sets your book apart from other books in your genre?
“Sorrows of the Heart” definitely has its own voice that speaks loudly to the familiar and emotionally wielding issues that people struggle with on a daily basis like love, relationships, mistakes that we wish we could undo, and often times the difficult task of making the right decision when standing at a crossroads in one’s life.
“Sorrows of the Heart” is unique in that Malcolm Johnson, the main character, narrates the story from his prison cell. He also shares some thought provoking insight into the way a man loves a woman and the evolution of his love for that woman.
What was your primary quest in publishing this book?
I published the book because I believe that an author gives a gift to the world by providing an opportunity for the reader to experience adventure, intrigue, suspense and romance with the power of words. Thus allowing the reader to be transported to another place in time while riding on the wave of their imagination as the words printed on the page stand up and come to life. Thus I believe that I have a gift to share with the world.
What is the best piece of advice you would give to an aspiring author?
I encourage any inspiring authors to edit, edit, edit. Then make sure you have a strong professional editor on your team. It is critical that you don’t allow mistakes in your book to negatively impact the readers experience or discredit your professionalism. In addition, choose two or three people to read samples of your work and seriously consider their feedback in regards to your finished product.
Share with us your latest news, awards or upcoming book releases.
I am excited about my third book entitled, “The Kitchen Beautician,” which will be released in late November of this year. The book is a hilariously colorful look at life and the decisions that people make and how those decisions impact their lives. Woven in between the colorful look at life is a heart felt romance story that will reach out and tug at your heartstrings.
The main character, Javon, is a man who owns a beauty shop that started in his kitchen. His shop is the most popular place in Atlanta for women to get their hair done. They not only go there to get their hair done but also to listen to his curling iron counseling. His up front and realistic look at life and his experiences allow him to give good advice and he doesn't hold back anything. He struggles with his sexuality since he was molested as a child. He has a strong church background and wants to break away from the lifestyle, which he was forced into at an innocent young age. A woman in his past comes to the forefront of his life and challenges him to decide who he really is. Excerpts from all of my books and reviews by readers are available on my website at:

Intimate Conversation with
Fredric A.
Almond
New
Christian author Fredric A. Almond is inspired to prove to the world that his
mother's sacrifice of death was the changing factor that sparked the conviction
to write. Fredric is active in ministry partnering with overseeing a local
church and is a profound speaker of the good news.
His passion is bringing hope to the young and battered people of today. He is
passionate about letting others know they too can overcome traumatic situations
of life's challenges. He lives with the conviction to encourage, motivate, and
persuade others in not giving up on finishing their course in Jesus Christ. He
has succeeded in accomplishing the tasks of achieving a Business Administration
degree specializing in Management, Associates degree in liberal Arts, awards and
decorations for military service and recognition from the local community for
volunteered service. He is happily married with four children."
Ella:
Tell us about your passion for writing. Why do you write? What drives you? What impact do you want your book to make on the readers?
I write to encourage and inspire others in letting them understand their life is meaningful. Sometimes we go through certain obstacles that scar us very deeply. Yet the scar isn’t outwardly shown, there is a deep pained wound on the inside that hurts dearly. In fact, we may get to the point of giving up and living a defeated lifestyle; never getting beyond the scar that occurs from the past. I challenge the reader in my book by a true testimony of my own life of scars that I faced at a young age. It’s easy to choose life when things are going fine but when trials come we still must choose life. I’ve seen and felt the hurt of others that are pained internally as if their life was over.
There is many in the grave that dies with their potential never being released. For this reason I am driven to motivate, strengthen and persuade others in not throwing in the towel. So they in return will receive the true essence of why they are alive. “Our scars are testimonies that give us fuel to move forward.” I pray the reader receives the courage to face their hurts and use them as strength. Moreover, we will live to fulfill, to soar and attain our prize in Christ Jesus!
Ella:
Finish this sentence- My writing offers the following legacy to future readers...
My writing offers the following legacy to future readers that no one can take your life but you have to give it up. If your life is worth fighting for then continue to fight as a good Soldier. Even when things may not look good and you may not understand fully what’s going on; just continue to trust God and everything will work out accordingly.
Ella:
Introduce us to your
book, Scarred for Life.
If a person was looking in my life from the outside in, they probably would have said, “I never should’ve made it.” At the age of eleven all hell broke loose! My greatest nightmare occurred and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I was traumatized! I watch my mother be stabbed to death. And to make it worse, I too was stabbed approximately thirty-nine times. He meant to kill me. I was supposed to die but didn’t.
Why did I live is the question that I and most would ask? I was labeled a victim and considered another statistic of black on black crimes. I was supposed to be cursed with this scar which was to permanently stop me from never overcoming it. My life seemed to be purposeless and filled with sadness and discouragement. However, I refused to doubt what my God could do. I simply believed that I would live. With the help of God, I prevailed over every challenge faced to become whole again! I challenge the reader to go deep inside there being to pull out who God has really called them to be while being scarred; more than a conquer.
Ella:
Where are you from? How did you start your writing journey?
I was born in Dayton, Ohio but raised in Los Angeles California. I started my writing journey by writing a daily devotion to send to other people to encourage them. My writing skill developed over night and began to spread like wild fire. I wrote a daily devotion for two years straight. By the time I stopped it had grew in phenomenal numbers, inspiring people all around the world. Once I stopped writing the devotion the desire to encourage people continued to be my burden. As I prayed to God about it, He told me to write this book about my testimony.
Ella:
Why was this book so important to create?
This book, Scarred for Life, was important for me create because I want my mother’s life to continue to live within me. This book also represents my brother and the rest of family. Their lives were shattered. I live to reverse the aftershock that their joy is renewed.
We all have the opportunity to live life to its fullest but some have given up hope because of their scar. This book is part of my purpose to be an encouragement and inspiration for those that can’t get passed the scarred situation. I am a living testimony of God’s grace. God put me back together again spiritually and physically. I owe my life to the Lord and I am forever indebted for what He has done for me. This book is just a token of my appreciation toward Him.
Ella:
How will your book,
Scarred for Life, impact community relationships?
The impact of this book will impact all ages and cultures. There are no barriers that this book can’t get through. I charge the reader in not giving up hope and will cause them to do a self evaluation of their issues. They will draw strength and say, “My situation isn’t as horrific as the person in the book and he made it through it. If he can overcome, I can too.” This book is anointed and will bless who ever reads it.
Ella: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from
Scarred for Life?
I want readers to ultimately gain from this book a conviction and motivation by using my testimony as an example to stay the course that God has placed them on. I want them to realize that their scar is not going to disappear but has to be used to fulfill their purpose.
Ella:
What is the most surprising thing you have learned from the community?
The most surprising thing I have learned from the community is the love and support t they have shown toward me. Also, they have been great encouragers without any strings attached.
Ella:
What would you say has been your most significant achievement with this book?
My most significant achievement with this book is the fact that I completed it while being married, raising four children, and pursing and attaining two college degrees.
Ella:
What advice would you give parents in supporting their teen?
The advice I would give parents in supporting their teen is:
• to continue to speak life into their lives
• Pray that God will show you the areas of their lives’ that are fragile; so you will be able to help them overcome it
• don’t give up on them even when it seems like they have
• support and spend much time with them
• remind them of their dreams and goals
Ella:
Name 3 things that it takes to make a successful parent, in your opinion?
In my opinion, 3 things that it takes to make a successful parent is:
• Having a personal relationship with God
• Don’t be so critical on everything
• Remembering that your child is a kid and will make mistakes
Ella: What can we expect from you in the future?
What you can expect from me in the future is my sequel of the first book called, “Scarred to Survive.”
Ella: Share with us your latest news, awards or upcoming book releases.
I will be a keynote speaker at a Christian Sports Camp at Magruder Elementary in Williamsburg, VA. My goal is to have my second book “Scarred to Survive” out by the end of the year. You can always check for updates on my website

Intimate
Conversation with Daryl T. Sturgis
Daryl
T. Sturgis
was born
into an artistic and professional family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
where he found himself surrounded by art and music at an early age. After
finishing college he moved to New York City in 1992 to pursue his dreams of
becoming an author. Daryl has performed in a sketch comedy group as well as
written several plays.
Ella: Daryl, tell us about your passion for writing. Why do you
write? What drives you?
What drives my writing is the sheer pleasure of manipulating words to convey
thoughts, plots, love, death, fear, ecstasy and drama. To bring the characters
that speak to me to life. To have the reader involved in a relationship with
these people that I myself are only discovering with every keystroke. From the
very first time I wrote my very first story at eight years of age on my
mother’s antique Royal typewriter, trying to make sense and somehow sculpt the
nightmares that plagued my youth into something manageable, I have had a
passion for telling stories. And in the end the words I write must lead you on
a magnificent journey where you fully let yourself go and become immersed in
their (these characters) story. Hopefully you will feel the love and passion
and pain and joy I have put into every word I write.
Ella: A Legacy is something that is handed down from one period of
time to another period of time. Finish this sentence- My writing offers the
following legacy to future readers:
My writing offers the following legacy to future readers: the knowledge that
good writing is a transcending force. That just because I am African American
and that my characters may also be does not preclude their stories from being
universal. That there is a place for all our voices to be heard and
recognized. That the non-traditional or experimental can not only be accepted
but praised. To show above all else that hard work and self-determination will
create a space where your life’s passion will grow to exponential heights.
Ella: Where are you from? What is your favorite genre? How did you start
your writing journey?
I was born in Winston-Salem, NC. I really don’t have a favorite genre but my
writing tends to lean towards fantasy and some science fiction. It can be
quirky at times. I loved disaster and monster movies as a child so my first
story was based on the movie “The Planet of the Apes.” It was about these
astronauts that crashed-landed in an alien world that closely resembled the
children’s board game Candyland. I was six at the time so not very
imaginative.
Ella:
Introduce us to your new book Solstice.
Solstice is an angry old witch raging and ready to cast a spell on the
insolent children throwing rocks at her house, robbing her of the rest she
needs to tend to her very rude hangover. She is a former Queen of All Witches
after all, who has fallen into decrepitude. A lonely old diva living a life of
inert seclusion in a crumbling Harlem brownstone with Constance, her grouchy
housekeeper who is both her companion and her foil. Flopping down into their
bedraggled midst comes the curious and determined Newel a precocious ten
year-old-boy, who shows up on her doorstep one day demanding she answer his
most pressing question, “Is you a witch?”
Beguiled by the thought of taking on an apprentice, Solstice sweeps Newel into
the maelstrom of her historic and nefarious rise to witchdom’s highest title.
Beginning with her birth on the hottest day of 1908, to her usurping power in
the waning years of the Harlem Renaissance. Fueled by vodka martinis and
champagne Solstice regales Newel with the raucous and sometimes zany exploits
of her violent ambition. The frog revolution she leads, conspiring with
demons, poisonings, zombies, spells and one very bloody coup.
Though fantastical in nature, Solstice challenges you to reexamine
commonly-held beliefs about ambition, gender, race, sexuality and class in
America. At its heart, however, Solstice is the story of absolution, humanity
and redemption.
Ella: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most
about them?
Solstice the title character and Newel the ten-year-old boy who comes into her
life. Solstice, though pretentious, is a born showman. Everything she does is
over the top. She’s like some grand old dame of a Golden Age Hollywood. She’s
the old lady your mother warned you about. Solstice led this incredibly rich
and notorious life. It didn’t matter to her that it was the pre-depression
south where being a black woman was almost a crime. She rose to the upper
echelon of society one scandal at a time. Newel is the wide-eyed innocent that
has lost his way in the world and in spite of his mother’s and her boyfriend’s
physical abuse, stills sees everything with the wonderment that only a child
could posses. Where everything new is grand and big and exciting. He learns
from Solstice and absorbs everything the elder has to say. Their love for each
other transcends his poverty and abuse and her evil and infamy.
Ella: How does this book shape or add value to the reader's life?
I think it will enable the reader to go out and pursue their own dreams. If
Solstice who was born into a world where women were not even allowed to vote
and blacks where only two generations away from slavery to grow up and become
the ruler of most of the world then surely they can do anything within their
reach..
Ella: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?
The joy of taking this special journey with interesting characters. To have
read a great story that they would want to read time and time again.
Ella: Who would this book really "speak to" and why?
I think it would speak to anyone with an active imagination. Someone who wants
to laugh and be provoked and to taste and be a part of African American
history with a magical twist of course.
Ella: What would you say has been your most significant achievement
as a writer?
Completely controlling every aspect of the publication of my book. From the
concept to the writing thru the editing process. Finding an artist for the
illustrations. To obsessing over the fonts and their point size and all the
details large and small of marketing it.
Ella: What advice would you give a new writer?
Don’t get it right. Get it written. Just let the words flow. Once its on paper
then you can perfect it. Find a group of people who will be honest—brutally
honest—about the writing of the book. Lastly, if you can’t actually find an
editor (thankfully my best friend is one) then get a professional proofreader
to look over your work. The benefit will out way the cost. I would rather some
one say they hated my book because they disliked the characters or the plot or
the style than they hated it because it had misspelled words and poor grammar.
Ella: Name 3 things that it takes to make a successful author, in
your opinion?
Determination. Common sense. Fearlessness.
Ella: What book already published is similar to your book in its
writing style?
Not sure what book but I’ve been told that James Wolcott of Vanity Fair and I
have a similar writing style. My books are very imagistic so maybe something
by Anne Rice. And I love to contort words and grammatical structures so I
would also say Stephen L. Carter.
Ella: What can we expect from you in the future?
Later this year I am publishing an erotic science fiction anthology and of
course the sequel to Solstice entitled The Goddess of Light will be out early
2010.
Ella: Share with us your latest news, awards or upcoming book releases.
The book release event for Solstice is happening in June 2009.

I write because it makes me

particulars of just simply moving through life and living. I write because
God has given me unique experiences throughout my life. I am at a place
wherein I can remove myself from the equation and simply zero in on topics
that are dear to me.
What makes my writing so unique and exciting to read
is the triple threat that it reads as reality with a twist and dab of
fiction. Something- that has proven to be a great combination for me. I
draw heavily from past experiences good and bad. I take my readers on a
journey to places many other writers can never write about accurately
because they haven’t been there. It’s one thing to have an imagination and
another thing to have an imagination on top of the actual reel to reel
experiences and familiarity.
Ella:
A Legacy is something that is handed down
from one period of time to another period of time. Finish this sentence-
My writing offers the following legacy to future readers...
My writing offers the following legacy to
future readers...Each and every one of us has
exclusive and matchless experiences as well as encounters. Some we hate
while others we adore. In my books I share a lot of my life and those
around me near and far. I would like every reader to walk away from my
books knowing it is okay to live and love as well as make mistakes. As we
move through life we will make mistakes, however understanding those
mistakes and getting past them will always be our key to an even greater
escapade and adventure.
Ella:
Where are you from?
What is your favorite genre? How did you start your writing journey?
I am from Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. My favorite genre is Urban Fiction, however I do adore classic
literature as well as self-help books. I started my writing journey
without knowing it by journaling after hearing Tyler Perry mention it on
Oprah many years ago. Years later my Bishop preached a message and that
day I started writing my first book, Mistress Me.
Ella:
Give us the synopsis of the book being discussed
today.
Notorious invites the reader
into the world of publishing as the main character embarks on the ride of
her life as she writes a novel. In addition to writing a novel the main
character is going through a difficult time in her personal life married
to a high profile rapper. Within the pages of Notorious you are given a
first class seat into the intricacies, blood, sweat, and tears of urban
publishing and the music industry. You get the best of both worlds within
the pages of Notorious. Your access has been granted!

Ella: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most about them?
My two main characters in
Notorious are Starlett Ray and her husband, Vance. I adore Starlett Ray because
without a doubt she is an extension of me many years ago.
I am partial to Vance because
he represents a few men that I have had the pleasure of knowing at one
point in my life all rolled up into one character. He is not my favorite
character, however it wasn’t hard to write about him either. More
emotional perhaps.
Ella: How does this book shape or add value to the reader's life?
Notorious shapes and add
value to a reader’s life simply because it gives each reader an in-depth
look into the highly guarded world of urban publishing. It takes readers
on a journey behind the words, storylines, and editing process. It also
introduces the reader to a character with low self-esteem who continues to
fight against all odds and shady powder puff folk around her.
Ella: Ultimately, what do you
want readers to gain from your book?
I would like for my readers
to know and understand that writing a book and getting it published begins
as a dream and can quickly become a reality.
Ella: Who would this book really "speak to" and why?
Notorious would speak to a
wide range of readers across-genres especially those who are interested in
writing a book. It would also speak to publishing and music insiders as
well. It is also a great and
exciting read-mind candy describes it best.
Ella: What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a
writer?
My most significant
achievement so far has to be- understanding the logistics of writing a
story by completing two edits with a great editor. I can’t say enough
about learning how to become a better writer and storyteller.
Ella: What advice
would you give a new writer?
Continue to work on your craft as well as study and read books, articles,
and interviews concerning the industry. No two stories are alike. New
authors should know and understand everyone’s journey will be different
and that’s okay. Measure your success based on your goals and expectations
not another author’s plight. Know that everyone that you encounter will
not appreciate your vision because it’s YOUR vision. Listen more than you
speak. If you encounter a roadblock don’t give up just find another route
and do KIM=KEEP IT MOVING.
Ella: Name 3 things that it takes to make a successful author, in your
opinion?
In my opinion to be a
successful author you need to be a great writer, better storyteller, and a
shrewd business man or woman. You don’t get what you deserve you get what
you negotiate!

Intimate Conversation
with S. J. Foster
S.
J. Foster, a Philadelphia native who has also lived in Texas, Ohio and
currently Georgia, is a wife, mother, a reality show addict, and an extremely
avid reader and passionate writer. This is her second novel. Writing is my
passion and I already have written in my mind my next 5 novels – in sequence.
Ella:
Tell us about your passion for writing. Why do you write? What drives you?
I began writing because I’ve always had a very vivid imagination, possibly
from being an only child the first 9 years of my life. The characters I write
about are people I know in my mind, typically people I’ve mentally had
friendships or relationships with! I spend a decent percent of each day inside
my head so late at night, when I do most of my writing; I put those daydreams
on paper.
Ella: Please finish this sentence:
My writing offers the following legacy to future readers...
FAPulousness! This is a term I coined which truly defines my writing. It
stands for Fashion, Action & Passion! All of my works – published and soon to
be – fall under this style as it represents the types of works I like to read
and write about. Champagne & Butterflies is meant to provide light hearted
chick-lit drama and fun reading. My previous novel as well as my follow up to
Champagne & Butterflies are darker and much more serious but they still follow
the FAPulous variety. I’ve also described my works not as books – but as
literary experiences.
Ella: Where are you from? What is your favorite genre? How did you start your
writing journey?
I’m from Philadelphia although I currently reside in the Atlanta area. My
favorite genre is any fiction that includes spice and juicy drama. I started
writing as a hobby. I write lots of poetry and short stories that I once only
shared with family and friends. After a while, their friends and their
friends’ friends were requesting copies of my work, encouraging me to finally
take a stab at publishing. I haven’t looked back since!
Ella: Share with us the synopsis of the book being discussed today,
Champagne & Butterflies.
Collegiates Kyla and Kimari Fontaine are the affluent stars of Champagne &
Butterflies, a “coming of age” story that will dazzle the young female reader
as surely as a new pair of strappy stilettos. Champagne & Butterflies takes a
lighthearted, chick lit glance at young adulthood. Since both heroines are
young, gorgeous and wealthy African-Americans, this drama mixes hip style and
urban glamour with enough fashion, action, and passion to enthrall any reader
smitten with the jet set ways of today’s label wearing culture.
Raised by father Benjamin, the well-respected CEO of the nation’s largest
brokerage firm, and mother Farrah, a former model and popular singer, Kyla and
Kimari certainly live a life of privilege. Sometimes dubbed by classmates as
the “Black Hilton sisters,” they blaze a popular path having graduated from a
prep school in the tony suburbs of Philadelphia to the campus of Penn State,
especially when behind the wheel of a Range Rover and convertible Lexus.
Just one year apart in age, sharp-tongued Kimari, who was previously ready to
shake her small town ‘It Girl’ status and conquer the globe, finds herself
trying to hold onto a relationship with a semi-famous, soon-to-be pro football
player while working to get her own star to rise.
Meanwhile Kyla, the calm, collected and considered the more reserved of the
two, finds herself in a great relationship with Vince, a safe and loving
resident doctor. Ever the overachiever, Kyla buries herself in work to try to
shake her lingering feelings for an enticing old flame.
Seen through the eyes of designer clad glasses, both privileged sisters are
about to discover who they truly are while experiencing growing pains like
never before.
Ella: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most about them?
Sisters Kyla and Kimari Fontaine are the main two characters of this novel.
They are young, beautiful and privileged but of course, very human. Kyla, the
responsible, well-put-together overachiever is likeable in her reserved
innocence. She doesn’t like cheating, lying or anything dishonest. Of course,
this gets tested before long but her purity is lightly comical as well as
admirable.
Kimari, the sharp-tongued firecracker of the two, is bold and sassy. She has
an undying desire to reach a certain level of fame beyond her immediate life;
and this sometimes clouds her vision. Her overtly honest and audacious
comments will make readers laugh as well as make their jaws drop.
Ella: How does this book shape or add value to the reader's life?
It’s pure and fun entertainment. I totally believe in escapism and this novel
is a fun getaway from everyday life. There are the labels for my fashionista’s,
there’s heat with the male counterparts for my steam lovers and finally
there’s a good old fashioned moral to the story.
Ella: What advice would you give a new writer?
Be true to your craft. Don’t try to write what you think folks want to read;
write what you love and what you would want to read. That way there’s more
genuine quality and readers will draw to that.
Ella: What can we expect from you in the future?
Novels! Novels! Novels! I continue to write poetry and short stories, which
I’ll be posting on my website and blogs. I also write songs so I’m actively
seeking new artists to give me the honor of writing for them. And finally, my
3rd, yet to be titled novel is practically writing itself which thrills me!

Intimate Conversation
with Patricia
Amis
Ella:
Welcome to Black Pearls! Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi. My name is Patricia Amis. I am the author of Snatched From The Fire (Republished By Naphtali Books.)
I am a resident of Staten Island, New York. I am a graduate of Wagner College, in Staten Island, New York. I have studied at the New York University Graduate School of Social Work. I am the Host and Founder of Elderview Talkshow. I serve as a strong advocate for the elderly population. I am the founder of Enhancement Through Counseling Christian Ministry.
Ella: What is your favorite genre? How did you start your writing journey?
My favorite genre is non-fiction. I started my writing journey one day, while sitting on the bed. After I had been delivered from my trials, I discovered that there are others who are going through similar trials who need to hear my story about hope.
Ella:
Tell us about your passion for writing. What drives you?
I love to write because it allows me to express my deepest thoughts, emotions, and memories. What drives me to write is the need for others to benefit from the stories that I need to share.
Ella: A Legacy is something that is handed down from one period of time to another period of time. Finish this sentence- My writing offers the following legacy to future readers...
My writing offers the following legacy to future readers who are inclined to be inspired by those who have triumphed over lifes' pitfalls.
Ella:
Introduce us to your book, Snatched From The Fire.
As a child, I grew up in a single-parent home. When I finally met my father, he over-compensated my sister and I by giving us abundant material goods, and money. He also indirectly exposed me to the spirit of witchcraft.
My step-grandmother, who was a minister in the church practiced witchcraft, on the DL. She used to visit David Berkowitz, the Son Of Sam Serial Killer of the 1970s every week in
prison. She believed that he was a prophet. She "helped him to convert to Christianity".
All of these doors to the spirit of witchcraft were opened to me, as a child. As a young person, I innocently walked through those doors. The spirit of witchcraft began to influence all of my decisions, and eventually I began to practice the religion. I became confused, battled a violent domestic violence situation, and lost everything that I had earned. Once I decided to turn to Jesus Christ, I became delivered from that violent world of witchcraft.
Ella: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most about them?
Sabrina Matheson, and Mr. Barnes.. What I like most about Sabrina Matheson is that she never let go of her quest for truth, and recognized it when the moment for change manifested. What I like most about Mr. Barnes is that he always showed love, the best way that he knew how to, in spite of the separate paths that he and his daughter took in life.
Ella: How does this book shape or add value to the readers' life?
This book opens the window of the unforseen world, which surrounds us on a daily basis. It exposes the reader to the spiritual realm that influences our lives.
Ella: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from this book, Snatched From The Fire?
The power of Gods' Love, and the rewards that may manifest as a result of obedience to The Lord.
Ella: Who would this book really "speak to" and why?
This book would speak to young women who may have a low self-esteem, because it empowers them to find the love of God, which would help them to love themselves.
Ella: What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a writer?
I believe that I have successfully encouraged most of the young females to make the right decisions about relationships, through my writing.
Ella: What advice would you give a new writer?
Take your time. Writing will not happen overnight. Stay focused, and remember that writing is a process, but you must keep writing.
Ella: Name 3 things that it takes to make a successful author, in your opinion?
perseverence, committment, and a positive attitude.
Ella: What can we expect from you in the future?
I will write fiction books, and Christian inspiration books in the future.

Her
legal name is Ana Y. Rodriguez but she is better known as LatinTemptress. She
began posting her short stories and blogs on Yahoo 360 in 2004 and MySpace in
2005. She quickly gained a loyal audience with her bold opinions, in-your-face
attitude and tongue-in-cheek, politically incorrect humor. Encouraged by her
friends, she started a short story online. An overnight sensation, what was
supposed to be a two-part blog became the seed to her upcoming novel
“LatinTemptress’ The Encounter”.
Ana coined the terms Wagfest and WaggieKatz and now operates her own online
clothing store. A former South Bronx resident, she moved to NJ in 1993 after
serving her country as an Army Reservist. She lives life by her own rules and
on her own terms, this evidently and prominently displayed in the tone and
content of her many blogs. Her favorite quote sums her best: "Some women
aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they need to run free until they find someone
just as wild, to run with" ~Carrie Bradshaw, SATC.
Ella: Where are you from? How did you start your writing journey?
I am originally from NYC but have resided in NJ for the past 15 years. I began
my writing journey as a child with short stories and poetry but it wasn't
until I was in my mid-twenties that I published my first poem. It would be
another ten years before my first book was published.
Ella: Ana, introduce us to your new book, LatinTemptress' The
Encounter.
Bella’s
life is forever changed when her former lover David Alexander reappears in her
life and claims what was once his on the same day she finally meets her
long-distance, online suitor, Jonathan Greene. Bella awakes from a coma with
no memory of her past to discover she is Mrs. Alexander but dreams in the
shape of ghostly memories begin to resurface with time. Is it all real or a
figment of her imagination?
Bella’s questions are answered when Jonathan searches and finally finds his
beloved. Bella must now choose between her husband and her lover, between
power and love, between a lie and the truth. Trapped in a web of betrayal and
deception, Bella rises from the ashes and becomes head of one of the largest
underworld empires. Will love triumph over power or will Bella lose her soul?
Everything has a price, including love. LatinTemptress' The Encounter, a
journey that will capture your imagination and never let it go.
Ella:
Who are your two main
characters and what do you like most about them?
My two main characters are Bella and Jonathan. I love Bella because she is
fierce! She is strong, confident and can be cold as ice but she is also soft,
vulnerable and loving when she needs to be. Jonathan is her perfect man, her
hero and saving grace.
Ella:
What makes your book stand out and
would entice a reader pick it up?
My book has a story that will keep you enticed and those pages turning. Bella
has become every woman's she-ro and the storyline will draw you into her life
and that of the other characters. The cover has also been beautifully done and
does make a person wonder what it is that the book contains inside.
Ella:
Name 3 things that it takes to
make a successful author, in your opinion?
Perseverance, determination and drive. In this industry, there are many things
that can discourage and detour your dream but you must wade past the sharks
and keep focused on your goal.

Meet author Alvin V.
Grimes
My name is Alvin V. Grimes. I was born in 19 bla-bla-bla in Detroit, Mich. I'm a former hard bassist/lead vocalist and I've been writing one thing or the other since I was ten years old. My favorite genres include: sci-fi, sword & sorcery, fantasy and horror. I'm married with children and I currently reside in Los Angeles, California.
Why Do I Write?
I believe that I write because God has gifted/blessed me with a talent that will not allow me to rest if I don't wield it within a certain length of time. I have to write, I'm miserable and out of synch with the universe if I'm not writing or researching in preparation to write. I write because I'm fascinated with danger and I'm a firm believer that writing and reading are two of the most dangerous activities that a person can engage in. Why? Because writing and reading can influence a person to change the way that they view themselves and the world. What can be more dangerous than that?
My Writing Legacy:
My writing offers the following legacy to readers...I want people, especially African Americans to become conscious of their personal heroic journey. I want them to realize that we come from a race of kings and warriors and that we have the blood of giant killers flowing in our veins.
Intro to Black Pearl:
Black Pearl is the story of a warrior in the pursuit of justice and freedom, who learns that in order to defeat the evil in his enemy that he must first conquer the evil within himself.
What Inspired me to write Black Pearl:
I saw Francis Ford Coppolla's "Cotton Club" and fell in love with the character of Bumpy Johnson, portrayed by Lawrence Fishburn. I find this period of our history to be rich and full of promise. I wanted to create a larger than life hero who could go toe to toe with Conan, Tarzan, Rambo or Bond.
Inspirations:
I was inspired by authors such as: Robert E. Howard, Tolkien, Fritz Leiber, Frank Herbert, H.P. Lovecraft, Steven King and later on by brothers like Steven Barnes and Walter Moseley. What they all have in common is the ability to create fascinating characters who dare to become heroes and diabolical villains who remind you of why we're afraid of the dark.

Intimate Conversation with Larita C.
Hello. My name is LaRita C. I am a 29 year old African-American woman. I was born and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn, New York. I am the daughter of a single mom with two other siblings. Life wasn’t easy but my mom raised me well and because of that, I am the strong determined young woman you see here today. I’m very passionate about life and I basically consider myself a “Go Getta.” That means I go after what I want in life and I get it. I make it happen because I believe in me.
What is my passion for writing?
I started writing at a young age, about around ten or a little older but it seems like forever. I am a huge fan of horror so my writing basically started out with me writing short horror stories. From that point on, I started writing song lyrics because I loved music so much and enjoyed singing as well. My song lyrics turned into poetry and I’ve been writing ever since then. I kept all type of journals and diaries, which of course my mother read every time she got the chance to. We sit back and laugh about those times now but it actually helped my writing to progress and my passion for writing became deeper and more intense.
I write because writing has always been an outlet for me to express my thoughts and feelings. The best way I coped with things was through writing and to at least try to gain some type of clarity on situations in life. There are many forces that drive me to write, people, events, occurrences, love, time, the world, it’s everything overall that inspire my words. I want my book to have a positive yet informative impact on people when they read it. I want people to say, "Yes, I can relate to this or
I've been through this before." I want people to not only relate to it but to also feel what my writing is all about. Overall, my goal is to touch people in many ways.
Introduction to the book Love Without a Limit
After many years of writing, I decided to take it to the next level and finally publish a book. I felt that it was time for me to step my game up and prove to myself that if there’s a goal in life to be pursued, then I can make it happen .That is what I did and I am a new published author of a book of poetry titled, “Love Without a Limit.” Love without a Limit basically takes you on a rollercoaster ride of love’s up’s and down’s. I can guarantee you that there is at least one or a few poems that everyone can relate to. The title basically speaks for itself: Love is without a limit, weather you’re in love, out of love, weather love has consumed you or left you feeling numb, love truly is without limits. This book is a true representation of what poetry really is. Poetry don't have to have big or fancy words or be put into words where even the reader can't
understand. Poetry can be two lines, three lines or even just a few words. Poetry has to come from the heart and each piece I write comes straight from my heart, weather it's personal or creative. I am proud of my first work and I encourage everyone to purchase their copy today if they haven’t already done so.
My writing offers what legacy?
My writing offers this following legacy to future readers: Don’t stand back and watch your dreams slip away. Be a Go Getta and go for what you want.

Intimate Conversation with Lusipher
Lusipher lives and works in St. Louis, Mo. He makes a living as a cab driver for St. Louis County Cab Company, and he has been ‘cabbing it’ for almost twenty years.
BDSM: Zack’s Odyssey is Lusipher’s second novel. He is attracted to powerful imagery and wanted to write a novel with a style and force that rivaled his ambitions.
Ella: Hi, Lusipher. Why do you write?
Writing is a creative outlet for me to explore both myself and the world. There are universals that we all share. We all need food, water, oxygen, and so on. On the other hand, we all have an alien code that gives us unique perspectives on beauty, love, fear, sexuality, and so on; writing enables me to share with readers my own perspectives on beauty, love, fear, God, the universe, and so on. The beauty of writing is in taking something plain--something simple-- and magnifying that idea into a larger context. The beauty of writing is in creating something that assumes a life of its own, and which changes from one reader to the next.
I want my book--Bondage and Discipline, Sadism and Masochism—to entertain those who read it. Whether this book--or any books that I write in the future--contains a message or moral is secondary. When I go to see a movie, I go to be entertained.
Ella:
What is your book,BDSM: Zack’s Odyssey, about?
Bondage and Discipline, Sadism and Masochism (BDSM): Zack’s Odyssey looks at one man as a shattered reflection of alcoholism. By way of metaphor, BDSM describes alcohol addiction as a dysfunctional and destructive sadomasochistic relationship.
BDSM is a shocking two-volume thriller about a black man named Zack Simms who enslaves himself to a sad, beautiful, and powerful woman named Sadie Sunshine. Their relationship is symbiotic: he’s a sadist, she’s a masochist. He’s hooked on alcohol, she’s hooked on antidepressants. She drags him down, he lifts her up! They’re a perfect match!
The more Zack abuses Sadie and alcohol, the more power they have over his life--his job, his marriage, and his health. Abuse, denial, guilt, and booze—these are Sadie’s weapons and she mixes them well—and strong—to keep Zack lubricated and on her stiff leash. Zack is a contradiction. By day, he’s a 44-year-old cab driver who is married to a supportive and hardworking woman named Ann; at night, he becomes a dog, a toy, and a glowing latex-fetish demon addicted to abnormal sex. Sadie liberates Zack’s primitive instincts; she makes him reckless; she makes him powerful; she makes him numb; she dissolves all of his pain—at a price. To save his life, his job, and his marriage, Zack must cut Sadie off for good. Can he?
Ella: Are your characters based on real people?
The characters of BDSM are exaggerated elements of both me and of people I’ve come in contact with over the years. I used to be an alcoholic like the story’s protagonist. Also, I’m a cab driver and I live in South St. Louis, Mo. When I drank, my favorite drink was called 1843, which I used as the apartment address of the story’s protagonist, Sadie Sunshine.
Ella: What inspired you to write this story, BDSM: Zack’s Odyssey?
I used to drink a lot. When I quit drinking, I wanted to write about what it was like being an alcoholic. I wanted to describe my experiences with alcohol and I also wanted to describe the scourging effects alcohol had on our society.
Ella: What issues in today's society have you addressed in the book?
BDSM: Zack’s Odyssey addresses the following issues; alcoholism, prescription drug abuse, unsafe sex, physical abuse, clinical depression, and marital infidelity.
Ella: How difficult was it to complete the novel?
It was very difficult to write BDSM. I had to get a feel for writing in a way that complemented the dark and explicit theme of the story. I had to learn the language, or poetry, for describing the twisted scenarios in the story. There are science fiction elements throughout the story involving robots—their social and commercial applications. This was my first attempt at science fiction and I wanted to describe these scenes with details. I read a lot of books on not only alcoholism, but books on prescription drug abuse, robotics, the human anatomy, HIV and Aids, books on abnormal psychology, philosophy, books on construction machines, books on gastroenteritis, etc. Then, to empathize with some of the situations I described in the book, I did a little field research and some interviews with individuals who practice BDSM. These interviews enabled me to understand the S&M dynamic called power-exchange wherein a submissive partner relinquishes control of his or her life to a dominant partner. In S&M, power-exchange is about trust—if I am totally powerless and submit myself to your whims, can I trust you to care for me and to not hurt me? In my book, power-exchange takes the form of self-control, abuse, denial, and guilt as these relate to alcoholism.
Ella: What is your most valuable lesson about the publishing industry?
The most important thing to know about publishing right now is how easily accessible it is for anyone to do it. However, writing and publishing a book are different from promoting a book. Promoting a book is more difficult than writing a book. E-publishing and POD publishing have democratized publishing; they have also diluted publishing. With a few hundred dollars, anyone can set up a website, enroll with PAYPAL, set up some links, and open a virtual bookstore. This is something I’m learning first hand right now. I think the writers who work on their craft longer are the writers who will rise out of this generation of authors. I think today’s novels are written too fast and too commercially to have any value beyond a single reading session. The most valuable thing I’ve learned to do is read. Read books on the publishing industry. Read books on the topics you like. Read books from different genres to stretch the muscles of your imagination. I’m still feeling my way with self-publishing, so I can only offer my own artistic opinions.
Ella: What writers inspire you and why?
I admire imaginative writers. Writing “what you know” can be a copout for lazy writers who don’t want to do any research beyond writing about the “hood.” Ray Bradbury’s never been to Mars but he wrote The Martian Chronicles. Phillip K. Dick wrote about androids and flying cars and electric goats and sheep. Dante never went to Hell and came back, yet he wrote The Divine Comedy. Homer wrote about the Trojan War and Achilles. As a writer, you can transport your feelings anywhere and against any backdrop.
Ella: What did you hope to accomplish by writing this particular story?
I wrote this story as best as I could write it and I received the precise responses that I anticipated. Even if this book is regarded as a failure, I’d rather fail at attempting something fresh and original than to succeed at creating a carbon copy of a carbon copy of a carbon copy etc.
Ella: Share with us your latest news, awards or upcoming book releases.
In the June 18-24, 2009 Music Awards issue of the St. Louis Riverfront Times, Village Voice reporter Kristen Hinman interviewed me about my book,
Bondage and Discipline, Sadism and Masochism: Zack’s Odyssey. Presently, I’m on book signing tour at bookstores throughout St. Louis Mo. Thanks for interviewing me.

Intimate Conversation with authors Patti Wicklund about Jane McCormick
Jane McCormick is called a sex-trade survivor, and was a “high-class call
girl” and former prostitute. But what she really was and still is today, is a
successful entrepreneur, a true women’s advocate, and born to be a natural
marketing/business major from the college of life. Jane’s played a big part in
our American history during the 1960s and today is an inspiration to all women
who seek e quality and want to fight against women’s violence.
When I met Jane McCormick fifteen years ago, I immediately knew that she was a
unique and wonderful person just by the way she walked into a room. While
everyone was busy, trying to have a good time, Jane was busy “working the
room” just like she’d done in Las Vegas years before, except, this time she
was simply trying to meet new friends. Assertive, selective and smart she
methodically worked the room eventually meeting me, an educated artist being
laid off from a major corporation.
Teamed together, we formed a successful cleaning service. As time past Jane,
entertained me with her Las Vegas celebrity stories, but I had to understand
why Jane, had to live such a horrific life. And that developed into this book.
Ella: Patti, tell us about your passion for writing and about your book.
Jane’s life stories motivated me to write “Breaking My Silence” because I
needed to understand how and why’s of prostitution.
Breaking My Silence: Confessions of a Rat Pack Party Girl and Sex-Trade
Survivor
by Jane McCormick and Patti Wicklund
ISBN-13: 9781604614770
Vadnais Heights great-grandmother Jane McCormick lets down her hair about her
days as a “party girl,” and companion to the rich and famous—her induction
into the Rat Pack Circle (Chairman of the Board Frank Sinatra; crooner Dean
Martin; actors/singers/comedians Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis Jr., and Joey
Bishop). For those of us of that ’60’s era, it’s a backstage, women’s-eye view
of Vegas and its high-rolling denizens.
But glamour and glitz don’t come cheap or easy. Starting out in rough
circumstances, McCormick used her beauty and personality to parlay herself
into a life that she found in time had too many of the trappings of her
childhood years. The book is, in the author’s words, “not meant to titillate,
but to educate,” particularly regarding stricter prostitution legislation—for
the men, not the prostitutes. Obtain this hard-hitting memoir—co-written by
McCormick’s partner, Patti Wicklund—at

Intimate Conversation with Patti Wicklund and Ella Curry of EDC Creations
Ella: Where are you from?
My name is Patti Wicklund, and lived in a modest North Minneapolis home during
the 1950s with two loving parents, a big brother, and loyal grandparents and
with neighbors who were family to me.
After graduating from high school, I worked for five years then, after my
father died, decided to get a college education. I completed an AA degree in
Fine Arts from North Hennepin Community College. Then I went on to finish a BA
in Fine Arts from Metropolitan State University and at the same time graduated
with a BFA in Visual Communications Design from Minneapolis College of Art and
Design.
Ella: How did you start your writing journey?
“Breaking My Silence”, Confessions of a Rat Pack party girl and sex-trade
survivor was an eye opener for me. At first I didn’t believe Jane’s stories,
then one day I found a photograph of her on the internet with “The Rat Pack”
at the Sands Casino in Las Vegas . After that, I needed to understand how Jane
got there! So I started writing and kept writing.
Ella: Tell us about the main character?
Jane McCormick is a brave and caring individual who had to struggle through
life surviving many horrifying obstacles and is still alive to help others
stay out of the business.
Ella: What makes the book stand out and would entice a reader to pick it up?
The honest reality of this book is a must read for parents, teachers,
preachers, officers and anyone who needs to understand the cruelty of
prostitution and the men behind its corruption.
Ella: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?
The main message to the girls is “Don’t Do It!” Change the laws. Arrest the
child molesters, johns and pimps.

Conversation with Pamela Leigh Starr
Pamela Leigh Starr traces her love for writing back to her first creation, The
Terrifying Night, a comedic thriller illustrated by a classmate. Long after,
Ms. Starr developed romantic stories, falling in love with the never-ending
cycle of two people meeting, opening their hearts and finding their way to
love.
Ella: Where are you from? How did you start your writing journey?
I was born and raise in New Orleans where I still live, surrounded by its
unique culture of jazz, the best food in the country and people who know how
to let the good times roll! Les bon temps roulez!
Ella: Introduce us to your series of books and your latest release.
The recent reprints of two of my novels (CHANCES: March '09 and IRONIC: April
'09) has prompted me to renew readers' acquaintance with all books in my LOVE
FOUND series as well as my most recently released novel STORM.
Ella: What is the most surprising thing you have learned in creating books?
The most surprising thing I've learned in the creation of my stories is that I
should always listen to my characters. They "speak" to me as I write, guiding
the story in directions I had not intended to go. When I begin a story I have
an outline and set format. As my character develop they sometime tell me,
"Whoa, Pam, that's not what I would do!" or "Are you crazy? I need to...".
What can I do but give in to their demands?

Conversation with Steven Jackson
Prior to becoming an author Steven Jackson ventured into background acting
landing work with Universal City Studio’s Production of "Friday Night
Lights" directed by Peter Berg. He also worked on director Roland Emerich’s
Production of "Day After Tomorrow". As a writer Mr. Jackson worked for a
local newspaper called, "Visions Metro Weekly" hired as a columnist.
Ella: Where are you from? How did you start your writing journey?
A: First let me introduce myself. My name is Steven Jackson and I am a
published writer with AuthorHouse Publishing Co. I was born in Harlem
Hospital, I’m a Leo and I was raised in New York City. I first started
writing screenplays while practicing as a license real estate broker and
part time security investigator. At that time a good friend mentioned to me
that he managed people who wrote stories for a living. Believing I had a
story to tell, I decided to challenge myself and take on the task of writing
about my experience with online dating. During that time people were meeting
other people in Yahoo and AOL chat-rooms. Then there was a website called
Matchdotcom. This website required you to fill out a profile of yourself and
the website would match you up with a potential partner with a similar
profile for you. That is where my story begins!
Ella: Steven, introduce us to your book. Is this a true story?

Conversation with M.R. Webb
M.R. Webb is a self-described “bastard child” who spent his formative years
growing up on the streets of Brooklyn, New York. “When my mother had me she
was a young 20 year-old, no high school diploma, unemployed and on welfare.
My father was 19 years-old; at the time of my birth he was sitting in a
prison cell awaiting his fate for nearly killing a man.” These were the
dismal set of circumstances that served as the backdrop for the portrait of
Webb’s life.
Webb says that it was only God’s grace that allowed him to escape the
pitfalls of drugs and street violence, earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Mass Communications from a top ranking university, and then go on to obtain
his Juris Doctor of Law Degree. Today, Webb is a senior executive at a
consulting firm in the Northeast.
Ella: Where are you from? How did you start your writing journey?
I’m from Brooklyn, New York. My writing journey started as a child in
elementary school. Writing became my medium for expressing my thoughts. I
started competing locally and nationally in original oratory, poetry, and
essay contests in junior high school. The rest is history.
Ella: Please introduce us to your fantastic new book.
My new book Having Babies By Bums: 10 Rules Every Woman Must Follow To Avoid
Choosing A Terrible Father For Her Child is a meaningful conversation and
exchange of ideas between myself and women. The writing of this book was
prompted by two life-changing events that occurred almost simultaneously
last year. In August, I almost lost my life in a near fatal car accident.
Several weeks later my 15 year-old niece gave birth, took her baby, and ran
away with the father who was a much older man. I felt that I needed to
record these thoughts that would outlive me and possibly help my niece and
other women make better decisions about the men they choose as partners and
fathers for their children.
This book draws upon my life’s experiences as the son of a BUM, my
friendships with many men who are BUMS, and my relationships, conversations,
and observations of the many women that have been my friends, "sisters",
confidants, teachers, and even lovers over the last twenty years .

Never give up. If I can write a book as interesting as I AM, anyone can!

Meet Author and Speaker Anita Ballard-Jones
Thank
you Anita Ballard-Jones for joining us today. Black Pearls Magazine and EDC
Creations readers, please give our guest author a hand for taking time to visit
with us. If you would like for our guest to answer more questions about being a
writer, after reading the interview please leave them in the comments section
below. If you have read her books, share your reviews with us too.
Ella: Anita, when did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Answer: I guess I am one of those authors who broke the mold. From my youth
until my early fifties, I never though of becoming a writer, except that I
wanted to write a memoir about life with my brother who was developmentally
disabled. Then, I believe it was the Lord's will that I write Rehoboth Road.
Suddenly I was hooked on writing.
Ella: How long does it take you to write a book?
Answer: I wrote the first 100 pages of Rehoboth Road in one night. Then, I
completed the remainder of the novel over several years. I was not a serious
writer and only worked on the manuscript sporadically. When I retired, I
completed the manuscript in a few months. I completed the first draft of The
Dancing Willow Tree in six months, but I worked on it at least eight hours a
day. My third unpublished manuscript, Ring Around The Roses, was written in one
year.
Ella: What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
Answer: I'm retired, so I can write anytime I want. Most of the time I write in
the evening, but I only write new material when I'm inspired. There are two
parts to my work schedule, the creative and the corrective (editing). If I'm not
inspired to be creative, I never write. I use this time to review what I have
already written and do as much editing as I can.
Ella: What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Answer: Working in a noisy environment. I like having the television or radio
on. I really don't like to be interrupted by family, but I like the family to go
about their normal business around me. I don't like to isolate myself in my
office either. My family seems to understand when I'm working and they just move
around me. I'll work at the kitchen table or with my laptop in then living room
or sunroom. I can tune out all the noise, but can spike to alertness if I'm
needed. My creativity is stifled when I'm in a quiet place.
Ella: Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Answer: From life and observation. Sometimes I hear or see a situation and I
will make a note. I don't use outlines. I only write when I'm inspired around a
particular theme. Once my characters are developed they seem to take on a life
of their own; this is more likely when my novel is inspired by a true life
incidents.
Ella: When did you write your first book and how old were you?
Answer: Early fifties. I wrote a memoir titled, BROKEN BOND. I have not
published it yet. It’s a personal look into my life and I’m not ready to share
it with my reader.
Ella: What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Answer: I love to fish; play the computer game, NEED FOR SPEED; go to the
movies, and read, but I don't like to read as much as I did before I became an
author. It seems I do more book editing and that slows down my reading.
Ella: What does your family think of your writing?
Answer: They are very supportive and are always telling me about things I should
write about.
Ella: What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your
books?
Answer: When I was in high school (back in the late 60s), I remember telling
myself there were two things I never wanted to be in life, a doctor and a
writer. I was never a doctor, but I was a Treatment Team Leader, whereas I
supervised doctors as a hospital administrator, and then I became an author. So
I would say the most surprising thing I learned was that I could write. When my
fans wrote to tell me how much they enjoyed my novel, I felt authenticated as an
author.
Ella: How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
Answer: I have two published books, REHOBOTH ROAD and THE DANCING WILLOW TREE. I
also have three completed manuscripts, BROKEN BOND (my memoir), RING AROUND THE
ROSES ( a novel inspired by a true story about six inner city children who
raised themselves because their parents were drug addicts), and a series of
short stories based on my personal experiences and observations.
REHOBOTH ROAD and THE DANCING WILLOW are currently my favorite, however,
as soon as I publish my manuscript, RING AROUND THE ROSES I plan to submit it
for consideration for a PULITZER PRIZE. I was more inspired to write this novel
than I was when I wrote REHOBOTH ROAD. Ignorance prevented me from submitting
REHOBOTH ROAD to the Pulitzer Foundation.
Ella: Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer?
Answer: Be inspired when writing. Be your best critic. Write, re-write,
re-write, re-write, re-write, etc. When you are inspired to write, then write.
Don't stop to correct your writing because you will lose your train of thought.
When your inspiration is gone, then correct what you have written.
Ella: Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Answer: Yes. My readers write me all the time and I love it. Most of the time I
receive letters of praise, and there are a few who point out issues. Some of the
issues are helpful and constructive. I try to respond to everyone within
twenty-four hours.

Atlanta has featured Kendra for three consecutive years.
A native of West Palm Beach , Florida and a graduate of Valdosta Technical
College, Kendra resides in Stone Mountain, Georgia with her family. Visit her on
the web at www.knb-publications.com
EDC: Kendra, tell us about your passion for writing.
KNB: I began writing poetry at the age of ten, but it didn't become my
purpose and my passion until much later. It was four years after the death of my
husband in 1995, that I turned to writing. I'd remarried by that time, but still
hadn't properly grieved the death of my first husband. My current husband
purchased a computer for me in 1999 and I sat down and began typing out all
those things I'd never expressed. My anger, my fears, my brokenness, my
pains...all of it, letter by letter, was typed onto the screen before me. What
started out as somewhat of a journal entry, turned into a full manuscript. I
never published that work, but the moment I completed it, I found healing. My
own deliverance drove me to want to write stories that would do the same for
other people. That was the moment that I became passionate about something that
before that time, I'd only done as a hobby. Now, writing is my life.
EDC: "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts."- Albert
Einstein (1879 - 1955) Was there ever a point in your career, when how your
books were perceived, didn't match the theory? And how did you change the facts?
KNB: I can't say that there has ever been a time when the purpose
for or the message behind any one of my books was perceived incorrectly. I think
the theory has always been clear to the reader, so thankfully, I've not had to
change any of the facts in order to make that happen.
EDC:
Introduce us to the new book, Battle of Jericho.
KNB: Just before heading to war, Master Sergeant Peter Jericho¢s
marriage suddenly unravels, resulting in his wife and daughter¢s move to Atlanta
to live in an infamous community called Shelton Heights. As his assignment nears
an end, Pete decides to focus on reclaiming the family he loves, but instead,
finds himself a captured P.O.W. His captors are brutally murderous, and survival
is unlikely for Pete, placing him in spiritual and emotional battle with both
God and himself. Are all of the calamities in his life just happenstance, or has
the legend of Shelton Heights caught up with yet another unsuspecting family?
EDC: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most about
them?
KNB: Sergeant Pete Jericho and his wife, Jan are the major players
in Battle of Jericho. What I like most about both of them is that they
love God and despite all of the obstacles that they endure throughout the story,
they ultimately turn to Him for direction, realizing that without Him, they have
no hope.
EDC: What makes your book, Battle of Jericho, stand out and would make
a reader pick it up?
KNB: The storyline in Battle of Jericho is very much
relatable and timely. Almost everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, religion
or social/economic status has been touched by the ongoing war in Iraq. This
story hits home, and readers can feel the pains and celebrate the victories of
the characters.
EDC: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?
KNB: Prayerfully, readers will also walk away realizing that life
is fleeting and shouldn't be taken for granted. Tomorrow isn't promised to any
one of us, so we should love our family and friends and show them every day how
much them mean to us. If we take the opportunity for granted, it can slip
through our fingers at the bat of an eye. Then all we have left are regrets.
EDC: What is the most surprising thing you have learned in creating
novels?
KNB: It amazes me how close I bond with my characters. These are
fictional people that I create, but I easily become attached to them and feel
that they are people that I know and love. I never would have expected that
coming into novel writing. But in every story that I've written, I've
established some sort of long-term relationship with my main characters. To me,
they are living, breathing beings.
EDC: Finish this sentence: I am Powerful because...
KNB: .....I walk with God
EDC: What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a
writer? How did you do it?
KNB: Allowing God to use my pen as a pulpit has brought me the
greatest sense of achievement. To know that people have read my books and found
answers to their own struggles, peace to their confusions, forgiveness for those
who have wronged them, and even found their way back to Christ through my
characters' lives....that's the greatest reward I could ever receive as a
writer. I've received a lot of awards and recognitions along the way, but none
of them even come close to the feeling that changing a life or saving a soul
brings.
EDC: What advice would you give a new writer? Would you change
anything about your journey?
KNB: When new writers ask me for advice, I always give them these
three words; ingredients that I believe every writer needs: Prayer, Patience and
Perseverance. If they have those three things, they can survive the literary ups
and downs and gain the success that they aim to achieve.
In my own writing journey, I've faced an assortment of challenges and definitely
faced some strongholds along the way. But I can honestly say that I wouldn't
change a thing. If it took that to bring me to this, then so be it. I thank God
for the valleys as well as the mountains.
EDC: What can we expect from you in the future?
KNB: I have a new novel, The Lyons Den, that will release on
April 1, 2009. It is the third installment in what has been dubbed as The
Shelton Heights Series. Battle of Jericho is the second book of the
series and it was preceded by In Greene Pastures. Also, I am currently
wrapping up the final chapters on a new novel, The Morning After which is
the sequel to another one of my books (Three Fifty-Seven A.M.). The
Morning After is set for release in late December 2009. In addition, I am
also working toward the 3rd launching of my Christian Caribbean cruise, Cruisin' For Christ (www.CruisinForChrist.org). This is an awesome at-sea
ministry/fellowship that draws Grammy, Dove, and Stellar Award winning
gospel artists, bestselling novelists, national spoken word ministers, Christian
comedians and actors, praise dancers, etc. and celebrates Christian writing on
all levels. The cruise launches in September of 2009.

Intimate Conversation with
Pynk
Ella
Curry, president of
EDC Creations was
recently blessed with an Intimate Conversation Interview with
author Pynk as she makes her debut into erotic fiction with Erotic
City, (November 2008), about the steamy and controversial lives of swingers
in Hotlanta, and Sexaholics, (October 2009), about four sex-addicted
women in rehab in Los Angeles. Both titles are from Grand Central Publishing.
Pynk's erotica titles focus on the concept of "guilt-free,"
responsible sex for today’s liberated women, and explores both the upsides and
downsides of sex. Pynk is the pseudonym for Marissa Monteilh, a former
commercial actress and television news reporter, who is now the best-selling
author of seven mainstream novels. Marissa is a native of Los Angeles who now
calls Atlanta her home. Visit Pynk at
www.authorpynk.com.
As we read Pynk's new book and chatted with the author it
became clear that EROTIC CITY is a fast-paced, erotic ride through the
sex-filled world of those who swing that sheds light on churchgoers,
relationships, secrets, and revenge. Will Milan find peace, or will the scrutiny
of her past and present dictate her future? The steamy nights of hot fun and
cold cash are about to collide in a dangerous mix of passions and wills as you
take a peek into the steamy lives of Atlanta’s swingers – but as EROTIC CITY
comes alive, you may want to keep this sexy book under the covers.
EDC: What is the one most surprising thing you have learned in creating
novels?
PK: The most surprising thing I've learned in creating novels is
that no matter what genre, you MUST continue to hone your craft and challenge
yourself, whether it be science fiction or erotica, because you must know how to
bring your characters to life in each and every story. It takes patience,
talent, and unconditional love for the writing process. It is no joke.
EDC: "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the
facts."- Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955) Was there ever a point in your career,
when how your books were perceived, didn't match the theory? And how did you
change the facts?
PK: I can't say this has ever happened to me in my writing career.
I write from my mind's eyes, though each reader will process the story in
his/her own way, from the way they visualize the scenes, to coming away with an
overall review of the the story. I stay true to my characters. And that, I will
not change, nor apologize for. It's not my journey. It's the character's
journeys.
EDC: Introduce us to your new book, Erotic City.
PK:
EROTIC CITY has become Atlanta’s hottest swinger’s club, and Milan Kennedy,
the bi-racial daughter of a famous jazz legend, is the free-spirited and
liberated club owner.
One year ago, Lavender Lewis, a former professional boxing champion, came into
the sex club with his woman, Ramada Hart, but he left with Milan. They’ve been
together ever since. Milan tries to walk the straight and narrow outside of the
club, but most are quick to judge because of her alternative lifestyle, accusing
her of being a hypocritical sinner, a pimptress, and a Jezebel. And although
running the sex club comes with its own set of problems, she also has to deal
with a greedy ex-step mother, a jealous baby’s mama from hell, and a man who’s
fighting to reform his old ways.
EDC: Who are your two main characters and what do you like most about
them?
PK: My two main characters from EROTIC CITY are Milan Kennedy and
her boyfriend, Lavender Lewis. Milan is liberated, independent, and she goes
against the grain. Lavender is protective and strong, physically and mentally.
They are both free spirits though their respective journeys have brought them to
a place where the love they have for each other also leads them to clash. They
fight to dance well together. That makes for good fiction friction.
EDC: What makes your book stand out and would make a reader pick it up?
PK: EROTIC CITY is a sexy sneak-peek into the lives of swingers. I
think most people are at least a little but curious about the "lifestyle," both
in and out of bed. This is a mental-visual for all of the reader voyeurs out
there.
EDC: Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?
PK: First, as with all of my books, I want readers to be able to
set aside their lives while they turn the pages, and escape by getting caught up
into the character's journeys. These are the journeys of people who have their
own set of issues, yet who are human nonetheless. We are all flawed. To read
something that makes you uncomfortable, yet feel for that character because you
get to know their many dimensions and what makes them tick, to me, is the best
thing a reader can take away a novel. And I hope that after reading EROTIC CITY,
the controversy of alternative lifestyles will be discussed and challenged, yet
perhaps better understood.
EDC: What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a
writer? How did you do it?
PK: My most significant achievement was writing a book a few years
ago from the point of view of three main characters who were men. That's easier
said than done. If you write from an opposite sex POV, you can't assume what men
or women would say in your absence because you're not privy to that. You have to
ask. You have to go against the grain and do your research. After all, it's not
about you or what you would say, it's about the characters. Men don't talk to
each other about what we women think they talk about. All is not as we think.
And for a female to write as a male thinks and talks, or for a male to write as
a female thinks and talks, one must know their characters inside and out. It's
called character development. It takes a lot of work, but it's so worth it in
the end.
EDC: What advice would you give a new writer?
PK: My advice to new writers is to study the craft, from learning
to develop character arcs to dialogue tags, from setting to point of view. And
keep writing no matter what, because if you love what you do, you won't give up.
Be disciplined!
EDC: Would you change anything about your journey?
PK: I wouldn't change a thing. I've even learned to love even the
sight of the battle scars, and I have a lot of them.
It means I've grown. And that is priceless.
EDC: What can we expect from you in the future?
PK: Readers can expect more women's fiction and much more erotica,
as well as stage plays and hot Pynk merchandise. I'm just living my passion, and
exploring my sexy dreams, too!
Thank you Pynk for sharing your wonderful journey with the EDC Creations, Black

Intimate Conversation
with S.
Renee Bess
Ella Curry, president of
EDC Creations was recently provided
with an opportunity to have a Intimate Conversation Interview with author
S. Renée Bess. Renée is a Philadelphia bred former high school teacher, who has
been writing fiction, in one form or another, for many years. Her short stores
have been published in the "Labyrinth Newspaper", Piece of My Heart, A Lesbian
of Colour Anthology, and Ma-Ka Diasporic Juks: Contemporary Writings by Queers
of African Descent. She is thrilled to have had the opportunity to publish Leave
of Absence. Renée is dedicated to the act of writing about African-American
lesbians.
Presently, Renée is
working on her fourth novel, creating and bonding with new and memorable
characters and searching for interested readers.
EDC: Renee why do you write?
RB: "It's important for us to tell our own stories because we
need to affirm our right to exist in the world and in the body of lesbian and
gay literature...many times we are not only invisible to the non-black gay and
lesbian community. We are invisible to each other."
EDC: “If the facts don’t fit the theory, change
the facts.” Albert Einstein (1879-1955) Was there ever a point in your career
when how your books were perceived, didn’t match the theory? How did you change
the facts?
RB: I attended my first writers’ conference after having self-published my first
book, “Leave of Absence” (Borders Personal Publishing) and having written and
submitted my second one, “Breaking Jaie” to a well known lesbian publishing
house. An influential editor/author who read the manuscript agreed to discuss it
with me. During our meeting she described my writing as “very close to
literary,” and assured me that if it hadn’t been well written it would not have
reached her desk. She then stated that despite its merits, no one would be
interested in reading a story that involved a black lesbian’s coming out
experience, because “no one cares.” I refused to accept that editor’s facts.
Instead, I clung to my belief that there are many readers who would care about
my character and her story. It was and still is my feeling that African-American
lesbians are an underserved readership that deserves to be able to find and read
well crafted stories reflecting their/our experiences. I don’t know if I changed
that editor’s facts. I do know that in finding a publisher willing to put my
books into print (Regal Crest Enterprises) I’ve had a chance to present my
facts and to challenge that earlier theory.
EDC: Who are your two main characters and what
do you like most about them?
RB: My newest book, “Re: Building Sasha” (Regal Crest Enterprises) debuts
November 10, 2008. The two main characters are Sasha Lewis and Avery Sloan. I
admire Sasha’s determination to be the best and to do the best with every
job-related and personal challenge she confronts. In her job as general manager
of a male-dominated home construction company, Sasha constantly feels the
pressure of representing her gender, her ethnicity, and her sexual identity in a
positive way. Unfortunately, she must juggle the pressures of her job with the
stress of living with a volatile and emotionally unstable partner who seems
intent upon destroying Sasha’s safety, peace of mind, and sense of self. In the
absence of loving support and the presence of her partner’s hateful behavior
Sasha finds herself drawn to the gentle kindness of Avery Sloan.
I admire Avery because she has chosen to
work with a troubled and difficult population, women recently released from
prison. Despite the ugliness she sometimes sees and hears, Avery remains
compassionate, patient, and gentle. Of course, I admire her willingness to reach
out to Sasha.
EDC: What makes your book stand out and would
make a reader pick it up?
RB: I hope the quality of the writing, the character development, and the
twists and turns in the plot would attract readers. I have to add that although
my characters are African-American lesbians and gays, I’ve had non-LGBT readers
enjoy my novels. All of us, gay and straight, have some of the same life
experiences. I’d like to think that this book, as well as my others, has a story
that would draw all kinds of readers, especially those who have an affinity for
romance novels with strong secondary themes.
EDC: What is the one most surprising thing you
have learned in creating novels?
RB: I’ve learned there is a real sense of “sisterhood” among the writers I’ve
met or with whom I’ve corresponded. I’ve written fan-emails, requests for advice
and guidance, congratulatory messages, and announcements sharing information
about conferences and publications. And I’ve received twice the number of
similar communications than I’ve sent. I’ve been astounded by the sisterly (and
in the case of Rick Reed, brotherly) support that’s out there among authors. As
a community, we tend to encourage each other.
EDC: Renee, finish this sentence,
I am Powerful because…
RB: ... I respect the beauty of language and I am seizing every opportunity
available to me to touch minds, hearts, and imaginations with the power of the
written word.
EDC: What would you say has been your most
significant achievement as a writer? How did you do it?
RB: I’d have to say finding a publisher who accepted my manuscript and offered
me a contract was my most significant achievement. I did it by going to a
conference three years ago and allowing my desire to be a published writer
suppress my usually shy personality to the extent that I learned to network and
to answer “yes” when I was asked to participate on a panel about diversity in
popular LGBT literature.
EDC: What can we expect from you in the future?
RB: I plan to continue writing, and I hope my reading audience grows. I want
to refine my skills because writing is a unique craft. Using language
beautifully, molding characters until they are realistically formed, exploring
human behavior, and just plain spinning page-turning stories feeds my soul right
now. I expect those endeavors will be feeding my soul for some time to come.
